Mahjong solitaire anyone?

Mahjong solitaire anyone?

Hello again, devs and other players!

I was playing some mahjong solitaire online, and I realized how easily I could waste a few hours just... playing it. It's addicting! All the pretty tiles and sometimes peaceful music. I love mahjong because me and my grandma used to play it together all of the time, and it reminds me of when I was younger.

An explanation for those of you who have never played it: mahjong is a Chinese game played with tiles that are similar to dominos! However, instead of dots, each tile has a picture or piece of artwork. Mahjong and mahjong solitaire are actually two different games, as the former is for multiple people and the latter is intended for one person. (I actually have no idea how to play traditional mahjong at all!) The tiles also come in sets of two so that they can be matched.

To set up a game of mahjong solitaire, you stack the tiles into an organized... patterned stack? You can stack them to look like anything you like. I have seen butterflies, pillars, turtles, and all sorts of things. To win, all you have to do is match the tiles until there are none left. The catch is that you can only remove tiles that are on the outside! A single tile that has two tiles surrounding it, one on the left and one on the right, cannot be moved until one of the surrounding tiles are removed via being matched. You also can't match tiles that are being covered by another tile ontop, including if only half of the tile is being covered.

Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't! The stacking is random, just like playing solitaire with playing cards. However, that means it never gets boring! You never know which way the tiles are going to be, and there's always different patterns to try.

Would anyone else aside from me be interesting in playing mahjong on Wolvden and winning SC? For me, that would just be two birds with one stone, haha.

Obviously, it would require coding, debugging, and all that necessary jazz, but I think that a lot of pre-existing art could be used! I could see stuff like the seasonal icons, the time of day and moon cycle icons, weather icons, pregnant wolf icon, for sale icon, role icons, immortal icons, etc. etc. etc. being used for the tiles in lieu of new artwork. It could save a lot of time!

I love sharing my ideas in this forum because I am a creative person and have a head full of them, so thank you for taking the time to read my post.

i could see it being fun - i'm more of a three/four-player mahjong fan myself, but more minigames would be great!

(honestly think it'd be funny if wolvden had multiplayer mahjong...)

I would be willing to learn it if they added it! I have no idea how coding a website works, but that sounds like it would be difficult! Implementing a live four-player game, I mean. I have social anxiety so I might stick to the one player, but seeing a multiplayer game on Wolvden would be an amazing feat!

ah yeah, that's a fair enough point - networking and making sure everything happens at the right time for everyone would be difficult to work out. that said, if it were implemented i'd consider the option of making yourself anonymous when playing multiplayer mahjong - that way you can have some privacy :]

i do hope they implement other minigames - mahjong solitaire would be much easier a task, and like you said, they could use pre-existing assets for graphic art!

Ohh, that's a good idea! Back when Club Pogo had most games free, you could make yourself anonymous when playing games, I think. I always used it!

Personally, I love any sort of minigame on sites such as Wolvden, Lioden, Neopets, etc. The ones on Neopets were always far too difficult and time-consuming for me, though. I appreciate that the fishing minigame is relatively easy, but I can't wait until they add more games that are a tad bit more challenging and less RNG-based!

Some online games of mahjong will give you an shuffle option for when there's no more tiles left to match, so that could cut the RNG back a bit, if needed.

Of course, whatever games they have in the works right now are probably just as fun as fishing!

Support!

I'm down for more games that don't include slots and fishing I HATE the fishing game lmao

It'd be dope if in one of the quests, you had to reach a certain score range to complete it :)
