Yes, like Marble has said burying will only prevent you from accidentally using or selling those items. It doesn't prevent food from rotting, but can be useful for organizing purposes. I also believe it protects items from being used in the feed all/play all feature.

Somebody bought my puppy and it’s gone. Did the retire/delete it and why? What’s the benefit to that??

More than likely they purchased it to complete an enclave quest. Each user gets 3 enclave puppy quests per day, and there is a 25 SC reward for completing each quest. 

Ohhh I remember that. Alright thank you. Just curious. Flight rising had a system where you delete dragons for clan points to control population so I thought it was something similar
