Development Update #10

Posted 2021-06-23 15:40:41

While I'm excited for the pup training I'm noticing while trying to do a lesson after the tutorial none of my pups are showing up in the select a pup to train window after picking a lesson and mentor. Anyone know why that is?

I'm having the same issue as sawbus

None of my pups show up and I have a wide age variety from nursing to weaned to adolescent... I'm guessing bug?

Puppies must be between 2½ months to 5½ months in age in order to be trained.  They cannot be sick, up for trade, or immortal, otherwise they cannot be trained.  Puppies can also only be trained once per day.

@Sawbus: You only have four pups which fit the criteria: Carissa, Jojo, Memphis, and Remira.  All four of your pups have been trained today already, so they cannot be trained again until tomorrow (or when you next rollover).

@Hound: You also only have four pups which could fit the criteria: F G3 clean 5M 2RMA, M 2RMA 8M G3 clean, M 7m merle Azure G3 clean, and M G3 3RMA 5M T2.  They are all currently up for trade, so they cannot be trained until you cancel their trades.

If I understand the theory correctly, I noticed achievements interfere with perfect training to maximize hunting efficiency. Dedicated stalkers and chasers need 2 stats trained, finishers only strength, which means respectively 6 or 3 lessons are required to fully train dedicated hunter. Any remaining lessons will boost irrelevant stats which only hinder stat inheritance because the more overall stat they have, the less percentage of stats are passed into pups. Some achievements require to train puppies in 7 lessons which might develop habit of maximizing everything when some players might be looking for dedicated hunters.

Connecting both objectives, I see a solution improving irrelevant stats in the shortest lessons tutored by the weakest wolves. Trying to graphically imagine how it looks in the chart, I see important stats training as the legs of tutoring and irrelevant stats training as the tail of tutoring.

I just wanted to give my gratitude for the Training feature now that I've used it a bit. I think the standalone mechanics of it are really fantastic, and it creates wonderful lore scenarios, like my pup who looks exactly like his grandmother being able to train with her in her retirement years. ☺️

(I do wish I could select a Trainer or a pup from the jump and see what they are eligible for instead of needing to go through two dropdowns first, but that's just a nitpick!)

Thank you for continually adding such thoughtful + meaningful improvements!

@Dżanek

Your information about stat inheritance is incorrect. Each stat is inherited individually, so Puppy Training irrelevant stats doesn't hinder anything.

It seems I misunderstood the data I learnt. I'm really sorry if I made you reveal publicly unknown information to correct my disinformation. This significantly changes the approach to stat breeding.

I'm not sure why it would change anything? I breed for specific hunting stats, and this just enhances that.

Personally I'm very excited about this feature. Sad that my really awesome gen 2 Opal had just aged into adol stage at the time this was released since I would have love to get a few extra stats in his wisdom and smarts. :) But very interesting and challenging going forward.
