The move had the something of the reaction he had anticipated, and for a time he toyed with the relinquished carcass. He was yet hellbent on prying loose some moment of primal fancy with the she-wolf, but as Sora repeated her plea; the word “attack” like tiny daggers on her tongue. Nikolai stopped short. The rabbit dropped from his jaws and he dipped. It was half play-bow, half moment of submissive sorrow.
 

“I’m sorry.” It was true attrition in his spoken words.


Haunches followed his shoulders and Nikolai let himself fully meet the earth. His gaze was unable to meet the she-wolf. He was unfamiliar with such blunders with his usual flirtations, and it was a blow to his confidence. Nikolai reprimanded himself for not being more keen on her nerves. 
How would he make it up to her? Had he been a more mature male perhaps he would have been unfazed- maybe even invigorated by the skirmish. Her fear didn't rouse him. That wasn't his way. 

“I’m sorry.” He cooed again- this time attempting some repair. "How could I make amends?"

Sora looked away from him before speaking, with little whines" No Nikolai.. its my fault.. I just came at the wrong time." Once her heart rate went back to normal, did she look back at the male, facing him. Her eyes looking at him " I dont want to keep you from scouting, Nikolai.. I was just in your way"

But then she did something she would never have done. She padded up to him and nuzzled him. "  Ill be around, Just.. go back to the pack and I'll see you again.. I hope.

But she wouldn't be able to leave his side that easily. She would have to go to the pack with him. And hopefully they would treat her nicely. But the question she asked herself was, how would she be used in the pack if they decided or forced her to stay. And  what her role would be, if any. " Im willing to go to your base and have your alpha deal with me the way she wants, Nikolai. "

But then without warning... she attacked him back and bared her teeth at him. Canines by his muzzle. Snarling in an attempt to frighten him a smidge, she waited to see what the young male would do. He was at her mercy now. But would holding him down hold him back? Prolly not, for Sora was weak in a way. It would likely give him enough energy to get back up and attack again to see what else she was made of.

The first touch of the she-wolf’s body gave an eager jolt within the male, but that was what made her next move all the more contrasting.

“Saints!” 

He swore as the grey dapple wolf turned her teeth on him. She was a confusing one, and Nikolai could not make heads of tails of her. Perhaps it was his own fault; his own prejudices and assumptions finally catching up with him. This had been a dance full of miscalculations.


“If you wanted a piece of me all you had to do was ask…” Nikolai attempted humor to ease his position. What was the she-wolf’s agenda? “Look,” he added, “If you appear before the pack leader she would have the pack chase you right back here. Or worse..” He trailed off; remorseful that he had to utter bad news, and for a moment the male held still. Nikolai had no desire to fight back, not really, and he hoped it wouldn’t come to the level of protecting his skin. What would happen if he returned home marred? Clicking tongues and questions he would have to lie his way around. 

“I can’t offer you much more than some time in my company.” He added, “Now. How would you like to spend it?” And with a weary eye on the she-wolf’s keen fangs he added, “I promise not to play thief again.”

" You damn better not, Nikolai" Sora snarled getting away from him " Now..  I dont care what they do, as long as they dont kill m-me" she said shaking  a  little "  I just want to be in a pack again.. dont you see? I havent been in a pack in many moons" She eyed the male 

" you maybe wanna just walk around the water a bit? you know... get to know each other a tad better." she was mesmerized by the male and she couldnt keep her eyes off him

There it was. The she-wolf wanted a pack. Well, alright. Nikolai assumed he could not control the other wolves, and perhaps it was best to let Sora learn such lessons on her own. Maybe he was even assuming too cynical, and all would be well. 

The fox coated male let him self rise back to full stature, and gave a shake of his coat in attempt to release any of the lingering tension that the two spats of violence had given to the couple. “Yes, let’s.” He conceded, eager to put the fisticuffs behind him. 
Granted, this was indeed more than he had expected, but he didn’t blame the she-wolf. Had he not been just as desperate not a week ago? Nikolai could remember the good show of it he had made groveling at Lilith’s ankles for admittance.

 
“It must be hard to have to hunt alone.” The male mused making conversation as he started to trot in the direction of the the vernal water way that lay within their distance.

"I-it is actually" Sora began trotting slowly behind him the pack she was in before only allowed females in the back of every hunting trip. So she would do the same here. " But I get the food I  n-need whenever feasible, Nikolai."

She didnt mind that Nikolai was in the front because she knew  that if he attacked just for the fun aspect,, she would know. " So.. whats your pack like exactly... not that I would want to stay or anything, but if I had a choice to stay or be forced to leave and never come to the territory again..."

She got the courage to trot of next to him a while later, still travelling to the river. Her ears perked up and her tail hanging low, in a submissive manner.

The she-wolf was acting so submissive, and yet Nikolai felt like he was at her bidding. She would be getting her way after all, and not that it did him any harm to allow it. Curious how motives worked. What did he want out of this? Hard to say, but perhaps it was merely primal. Companionship. Nikolai had had fleeting moments of it these past few warm days. 


 The expression on the male’s features brightened when Sora stepped beside him, “My pack?” Nikolai mused on the question for a moment considering a fair answer, but his gaze was taking the she-wolf in. Her sleek dapple coat, and the graceful roll of her haunches as she stepped. How would her taut form feel pressed close? “We are only about twelve or so wolves. Everyone has a job.” He finally remarked. “What are your skills?” The male inquired regarding the she-wolf. “Beside being full of surprises.” The last comment was all jest, and he grinned in her direction as it was spoken.

" ill give you surprises Nikolai" Sora barred her teeth playfully at him. " I.. im a hunter to tell you the truth." she eyes the male " only twelve? gee Nikolai.. seems small.. but i wont argue."

There were a few times where her side grazed his and it shocked Sora. she then stopped when they reached the river "  wanna catch some trout with me before you take me to the  pack?" she asked stepping into the cold water and looked away to find the best catch. 

" Fishing was my specialty  before I left.. but I wanna catch bigger game.. so ill try it one day" she said  grabbing the ten fish and   slowly ate one in front of him to see if he wanted one. But she would be playing hard to get.

The fresh playful nature of the she-wolf brought joy to the fox coated male. He could do to be bested a few more times. It felt like a game, and he had to wonder what the prize would be. Each brush of her ribs against his was a rush of stimuli that begged for more. More contact. Though he considered that the she-wolf would not give in easy to his advances.

At her invite, Nikolai’s keen gaze fixed on the river’s iron tinted waters, and the soft summer light caught the trickling current. He was surprised to find himself unable to suppress a gasp when the she-wolf pulled the fish from their watery dens. “I must compliment you.” Nikolai cooed, stepping close to her as she descended on her catch. The edge of something similar to a hunger lit his eyes; though Nikolai did not attempt to take her hard earned prey. No, the yearning that churned at him was not for something so easily devoured.  His nerves were alert with how close the she-wolf was to him, and how he would like her to be oh so much closer, “It is quite rare that someone impresses me.”

 Sora gave her famous wolfie grin " impress you? Ha. I have yet to impress you still, Nikolai."  Her orange eyes  gently eyed his  before tossing him one of her catches. The biggest catch to be exact. Then went on eating the rest. She had yet to learn about this  curious male in front of her, but she would try things her way.  He seems for want me for some reason  she thought.  Why though?

Once she finished her fish, she walked to him even more and brushed herself against him just slightly before walking in a circle around him. 

" Now.. what do  you  want to do Nikolai" she temped him the way she temped or tried to tempt  other males.  "  Wrestle.. chase...you name it..."  she moved closer to him and nuzzled his muzzle with a slight whine. " And one more thing before I forget... What is a good lookin' male  gonna do with a scarred female like me. " she didnt know why she asked, but she was just... curious. The way he looked at her was unique and different. And she felt... safe.
