Item rot text and UI confusion.

Item rot text and UI confusion.
Posted 2021-05-25 05:24:07 (edited)

Update: When I wrote this I had just fed several of my wolves food that was in the red and about every other one got some sort of illness after the interaction before I threw the rest out. This led me to believe that "This item has started to rot," implied a risk in eating it. Yesterday I was pressed for time and fed my entire pack with exclusively red food and none got ill. I'm not sure which experience is expected, but I've now crossed out references that infer that illness is likely just in case! Hopefully the other suggestions still have merit. :)

Hello devs!

I'm willing to admit I may have .. erm .. skimmed past? .. the part of the tutorial on how item rotting works (and I'm not finding anything about it in Tala's Archives or the FAQ), but I have some suggestions for the language and visuals used on these items as I couldn't immediately discern what they meant.

1. More Concise Copy
Hopefully I'm understanding correctly, but it seems that items go from saying "This item will rot in 2 days." to "This item is starting to rot!" the next day. This initially threw me off because I thought it meant I had 2 days to figure out what to do before the item began rotting vs. the item beginning to rot (and needing to be salvaged) the very next day, rotting entirely the next. It would be nice if the helper text clarified this, i.e.: "This item will begin to rot tomorrow and will need to be salvaged or thrown out," and "This item has begun to rot, use a bone to salvage it or risk getting sick!"

2. ✨ Freshness ✨ Color-Coding
I also think it would be nice if there was a gradation in background colors (green, yellow-green, orange on the day before, red on the day of and beyond) for each perishable item based on their remaining longevity. This would also help alleviate the aforementioned confusion so that red could only ever mean "this is actively rotting".

3. Persistent Notifications (with Quick Actions?) + Bulk Select [by ✨ Freshness ✨]
Personally I wouldn't mind having a setting for making a persistent notification if I have close-to-rotting food so that I could offload it to someone else who may need it, opt to salvage it, or throw it out as soon as I rollover for the day, along with the ability [when within the Hoard] to bulk select by ✨ freshness ✨ level and salvage/delete items without having to drill into each stack type where it is occurring.

Thank you (and apologies if these are already in the backlog)!
