Tier 3 or Selene studs?

Tier 3 or Selene studs?
Posted 2021-04-07 14:11:47

Hello everyone!

I finally got lucky and had my first ever T3 pup born, so now I'm wondering whether people prefer T3 studs or Selene (special) studs?
The pup turned out to be a Chromium base, which I also don't know how popular it is.

I'm just looking for some feedback from people who are more in the base breeding scene, as I'm more of a mutie breeder myself.

Thank you :D

Personally i would go with the chromium as your next stud , Your chromium pup is pure gold !! Tier III, Gen 2, Mel carrier, unrelated to other Tier III/big names etc so completely clean new blood line :D

Here are my main reasons for choosing him over selene :

 * The Chromium is a gen 2 AND not related to any of the big name studs, In fact he is not related to any other tier III's, The Tier III stud pool needs more fresh blood (Especially the monochrome)  :D

*There are 19 pages of selene studs, That's over 350 studs !! . But only 1 page of chromium (18 studs total and most are related to each other)

*Due to there being so many selene studs, Stud prices for them are as low as 1GC .. You could price your chromium stud anywhere between 10 - 30 GC (Yours beinga gen 2 mel carrier and no big names in his lineage makes him worth more)

*Selene is a bit of a wild card to breed to in terms of getting Tier III bases or selene base

HOWEVER this all being said, Every one has their own opinions and preferences and these are just my own personal feelings on the matter :)

Thank you for such an insightful answer! :D This was very helpful!

I think I had it in my head that with a Special stud, T3s would be more likely to happen and therefore preferred, but maybe I just had that as a wrong assumption lol

Either way, the way you laid it out certainly makes the T3 stud a pretty good option, I'll likely be doing that soon! My lead is getting old anyway, might as well haha

To be honest i don't really know the chances of breeding Tier III bases from a special base .. I was under the impression that the outcomes are less predictable as the pool of bases is larger If that makes sense? Might be helpful to get advice from other players about this before making a decision :)

All i got from the wiki is this:

Special + any other colour group

Any base from the second parent's colour group, very low chance for the same Special base

I definitely agree with your T3 being gen 2 I would go that way for sure. If it was a higher gen probably not.

I have a gen 1 chased that I made Selene. I love him, but after 166 pups, most of which I've chased, I've had 2 Selene and no T3 yet. If I was trying to get a T3 in light shade though I would stay with a Selene. It depends on what your goal is. Low gen T3's will probably generate much more stud fee income than one of many gen 1 Selenes. Depends on if that base fits in your own breeding goal too. Special's are supposed to be able to have T3 -that was confirmed and I have seen a few. But it seems easier to get Selene from them than T3 so far. Edit -I just noticed your Chromium was from a Selene so that's encouraging!

I'm excited to see what the next Special base is though. The April Lunar event starts next Friday I think so should find out then.
