Item for “Lineage Wiping”

Item for “Lineage Wiping”
Posted 2021-03-31 20:59:44 (edited)

Hey there! Apologies if this has already been suggested but due to the player base’s fascination with NIB v. IB wolves I thought it might be cool to have a rare item that could be used to wipe all but the first page generations of a wolf’s lineage. This item would have to be applied before breeding (much like the sex change applicator) and would a help expand the gene pool and help with market fluctuations a bit (people might buy long lineage wolves, inbred wolves, with the hope of using the item on them in the future).

I know this item would be highly sought after (it could even be a grove item if creators want to make a little IRL currency on it) and would just be such a wonderful thing to have access to!

thanks so much for your time and consideration!

I think if it is to be added it has to be obscenely rare because the idea of “nib” atleast for those that play this way, is for the challenge, to be able to whipe it all off with an item would make this playstyle rather redundant

Yes I agree! I think having this item as a very rare drop or a prize of some sort would probably be the best way of doing it to make sure NIB still held their value. But I do think it would be a valuable addition to the game. Speaking from personal experience I purchased a wolf who was distantly inbred without knowing it because it was deep into his second page and I failed to vet it thoroughly. I’d love to have this option to erase that second page, even if it didn’t erase his first!

I think it would be interesting to have it be like the primordial spring in LD. a once a year, only one wolf, end of event prize. maybe an option to wipe all but the first page or all heritage.

I think it would reduce the price and market domination of low gen, NIB wolves as well as the "big names" problem but also keep it rare enough that it doesn't ruin the play style.

Silverrfire that’s a fantastic suggestion! And it would really help even out the market so that having a lineage (and the high stats the often result) aren’t death sentences when it comes to selling and trading without totally devaluing NBW and NIB. I think it would provide a bit more balance perhaps!

My biggest worry with an item like this is the impact it would have on the stat-breeding market. Currently we as a whole have stalled at around ~600 stats for a newborn puppy (NIB) with as good parents as they come. That 600 stat puppy will *not* top out at his dad's stats by level 20, you'd need to level him with +1's at that point or level the stud/mom with +1's to produce better babies. Sunfall for example had HUNDREDS of +1's in him, he was somewhere around 900? at 20 naturally.

If this item existed, a player could theoretically spend the year inbreeding one puppy back to the highest stat stud (emperor, currently) leveling it to 20, inbreeding it again, leveling it to 20, inbreeding it again, etc etc and gradually each baby's stats would go higher and higher. Then at the end of year when said special event item allows you to wipe lineage, wipe and set a baby as a stud. Then next year do the same thing. I feel like stat gains in wolvden (as a whole community) are meant to be gradual. We may one day have 3000 stat studs as a common number, but I don't want to see that happen for quite some time yet.

This idea is appealing, heck, I'd love an item like this, but I'd have to say no support. @RelevantKoala #15056 sums it up well.

Relevantkoala...to be honest I hadn't even thought of the impact it would have on stats when used in  the way you just described! I appreciate that perspective and agree with you- I wouldn't want that happening. I wonder if there is a way around that, i.e. by only wiping one second page generation, or one second page couple....something like that! Something to think about, but until then I see what you mean and agree :)

No support for the reasons @Relevantkoala posted! It's too easy to abuse, especially when low-gen wolves are already so high in demand.

I dont support.

There is another similar suggestion about using the same stat or mutie replacing system Lioden has (wipes the existing lions heritage and replaces with a new one). wolvden.com

One of the reasons I like this game more is because you cant do that. And dont get me wrong, I use it on all my kings over on Lioden, but on here I am trying to keep short clean lines. It would basically make all the work people have done chasing and finding gorgeous NBW's and releasing new lines worthless if you could just remove any heritage.
