Answered: Pupsitters and 100% Survival Rate

ANSWER: Pups at 100% survival rate do NOT need protecting.

I think it might still have the chance to die unless his protection is at 100% but Im not sure

If their protection is at 100% without a pupsitter I believe they survive no matter what. (There doesn't seem to be any negative to not having them protected, just the lack of a boost.) I've had a very young puppy off protection for a few days now because she was at 100% and she has survived just fine.

(I could be wrong and just lucky though! I'm sure one of the Grouse House guides would have a better explanation. :) )

Oh that'd be helpful if my 100% pups don't need protection for the upcoming RO - that'd be all I need to know -- does anyone have confirmation of that?

I think that was answered in the breeding guide, somewhere in the comments? would have to look though

From the guide: "The only way to guarantee that a pup will not die is to ensure that their survival chance is always at 100%. Any survival chance lower than this does not prevent deaths."

and "There are several things that make up the pup survival rate, and they are as follows:

- Base survival rate
- Seasonal bonus or penalty (pups born in spring receive a bonus, pups born in winter receive a penalty)
- Largest pup/runt pup bonus or penalty (largest pups receive a bonus, runt pups receive a penalty)
- Pupsitter bonus

These will all automatically be added to the percentage, and there is no hidden percentage to the survival rate.

Additionally, pups will receive additional potential for survival (added percentage rate on RO) overnight if they are either:

- Not weaned, and their dam is fed with, and played with (if they are not lead wolf) so that their mood and hunger are at 100%
- OR weaned, and fed and played with (so that their mood and hunger are at 100%)

If the nursing dam of the pups is not fed to 100% and not played with to 100% before RO, or the weaned pups are not fed and played with so that their mood and hunger are at 100%, they will incur a survival rate penalty on RO."

Also this: "At rollover, pups of nursing age will have increased survivability rates (+7%) if their mother’s mood and hunger are at 100%, but will have reduced survivability rates (-8% to -15%) if neither mood or hunger is filled to 100%. If only one of mood or hunger is filled to 100%, there will be no chance in survivability rates."

So only a penalty if the pups are not cared for.
