Where should I go get my first breeding male?

Where should I go get my first breeding male?

I assume using the generated wolf isn't the best and I should find something with more interesting genes. Can you give me some indications of how to search for one, or how long to save up for one? I'm not going to play hardcore or buy GC right now- I've played Lioden and I tend to get way overwhelmed by it. So, just give me the "I wish I had done this when I was a newbie" quick version.

Don’t set a breeding male right away because it’s expensive to change.

I’d suggest get used to how the game works, build up your pack to be something you enjoy, figure out what you want as a stud and then work towards it - people tend to like low gen wolves with lots of markings, a tier 2 or 3 base, and high stats (aim for higher than 600 when levelled up a little, which means starting with a pup at around 350-400).

Getting a good stud takes time and a bit of work, but it’s worth it so long as you’re happy with the end result.

To add to what Bobbie said, try to experiment a bit with breeding using outside studs (there are a lot that refund all or part of the studding fee, so their prices are accessible also to new players) and learn what kind of colors and markings type you like to see on your wolves.

Since breeding to your breeding male doesn't cost anything and most of us breed a lot of our females to him, you should make sure to get a breeding male with markings that you like and with a base that generate other bases that you like or you will find yourself with an army of pups you dislike.

For example, Cool Medium Tier 2 bases are beautiful, but when bred they often give you Khaki base, so if you don't like green wolves, you should probably avoid a stud with that type of base. I suggest to check out this guide to take a look at color groups and how breed with different colors works.

Same with markings. If you understand that you hate, let's say, Black Predator marking because it makes your wolves looking too dark, you should probably avoid having that marking on your stud, because he would pass it often to your pups.

A clever trick if you know you are the type of player that get tired easily of your BM is to choose a wolf that is already a bit old (4-5 years old) so that he would die sooner then a younger one and will let you move to a new breeding male without having to pay GC. But don't choose one too old because you have the 30 rollover cooldown after choosing a new BM so you would risk to find yourself unable to choose a new one for some days.
