Question about star wolves

I know how to spot them when you run across a befriend wolf . But once in a pack like for sale .  How can you tell if its really a stared wolf?

A couple of things to check for: 

1. All NBWs are heritageless (no wolves in their family tree). That's one of the reasons people chase - it wipes the family tree. 

2. If it is a special NBW (indicated by 1-5 gold stars, rather than a purple shooting star) they have an exclusive NBW trait. This means glass eyes, shaded, smoke, or point markings, or one of the special TII bases. If an NBW has any of those, it must have been a starred wolf. 

3. There's no way to tell for sure if a wolf was chased, but as far as I know NBWs (special or normal) can only be generated with up to three markings. If a wolf has more than three markings, a breed only base or marking, etc., it must have been chased.
