the issue with the raccoon wares

the issue with the raccoon wares

listen, I love wolvden with all my heart, I really do. I got very frustrated with the game a few times but now that I'm settled its brought me joy in my worse moments just because I got to see a puppy go to a good forever home or because I got a rare item somehow. So this post isnt out of hate for the game.

HOWEVER

there is a HUGE issue with the raccoon wares. A Very Big issue. and it needs to be fixed. and as someone who wants to see this game thrive I needed to make this post.

1) the obvious: items are sold to him for a very low price

for newbies who have just figured out you can sell stuff to this trash panda, it's very disappointing to see items you worked hard to get be worth one single silver cone. three if you're lucky.

I was scrolling down my items to sell him a deco recipe that's very common and that I had already learned (for 10sc, despite the fact it's a deco recipe you get randomly by giving away an amusement item, which isn't always easy to get depending on the RNG gods, to a possum in a not exactly common encounter), and noticed that the muskox carcass, an item you get in a low win in the slots that has 24 uses, which is enough to feed most of my pack in one day, was only worth 15 sc

now, I'm very dumb and still new to the game, so I have no clue if this item is acquired by other means, but even if it is, that's an extremely low price for something LIFE SAVING for packs, specially bigger ones, and given how large it is, if you can get it outside of the slots, it's probably very hard to do so, like getting an elk carcass. if you go to explore and in every encounter that you're able to get sc you get 3sc, you'll only need 5 encounters to get the same amount of cones you get for selling a carcass with 24 uses. 15 is not a lot of money

it gets worse when you consider you spend 10sc per pull on the slots, so if you manage to get a low win on your first try and immediately get this prize and then decide to sell it to tom nook's evil cousin, you'll get only 5sc in reality. you can get this in 5 to 2 sc encounters in explore or selling one fish in the fishing game, depending on the size.

and this is just one example! medicines are sold for 7sc, healing salves are a very low price too for something that can save your ass after a battle, lucky feet, decorations, the list goes on. important and/or hard to get items are CHEAP for this man, and it doesn't help players who need to get that money quickly.

2) the also pretty obvious: there's no difference between rare items of the same type and ultra common ones

the biggest example of this sin is herbs. herbs are scattered throughout our tiny furry world and some are pretty rare, like chaparral, kava and aloe, to name a few, mostly because they're located in more advanced biomes or because your chance to get them at random while following a raven is very low. now, in contrast, garlic, arnica and cedar bark are super common herbs. like, super common. and to be honest, the only one with a bigger value is arnica because of the arnica flower decoration, but even so, that's not a lot.

so, if you sell these vastly different plants to the trash panda, what does he give you? 1sc.

1 single silver cone, no matter which one of these herbs I've mentioned you give to him.

if you're trying to get money by bulk selling items to him, which, good luck by the way, you'd earn the same amount of money selling 10 tansy or 10 aloe. that doesnt make sense at all!!

once again, comparing to sc encounters in explore, you can earn more sc by hooting to an owl that gets oddly interested in you than by selling a single chaparral, which to my knowledge you only get in the desert biome, and is used to make a very important medicine if it ever needs to be used, which is the antidote.

3) okay this is all obvious by now: his items arent cheap at all.

in my humble opinion, buying a biome based decoration of some fox kits for 400sc isnt all that bad, I can get behind that. decorations arent made to be exactly cheap, even the ones you get in explore, and this one is more unique and, as mentioned, biome based, so even more special.

but given the fact he'll give you a penny for an item that can take you a whole day of exploring to find, it starts to get ridiculous.

it's already hard to work your way up with sc in the game, with the fact you might want to buy items on the trading center, needed ones or not, or that you'll want to expand your pack. the easiest way, currently, is by doing daily quests, which are now fortunately more friendly. so it doesnt seem fair that most of his items have high prices when you can sell also very valuable items for pretty cheap to him, it feels unmotivating, at least to me.

solutions

- get rid of the max. sc you can get per day from him. that already relieves players a lot, even if the prices are still low

- make the prices of items higher, soecially for rare ones. legit. please. I have puppies to feed. i cant keep selling eggs to the raccoon for 1 or 3 sc. I'm begging you

- or, if this is, at all, not an option, make it easier to get more sc in other areas, like battles, explore encounters or other games. Not the best option but any suggestion is a worthy suggestion

this might all come off as me being rude but I'm just genuinely tired of this. I've been grinding sc for a while now to grow my pack and the raccoon is not giving me hope. Please feel free to give more suggestions in the comments or to yell with me, this has all been said before so we can all just do a collective yell at the trash panda.

TL;DR: raccoon is a stingy man, prices unfair, me angry.

While I understand where you're coming from with wanting more quick/easy SC, I think the trading center should remain as the place where players should go to get high amounts of SC. If the raccoon bought for super great prices, that would scam actual players out of getting rewarded/paid for their rare finds. Having the raccoon clearly exist as a last resort allows the market to breathe and shift in prices as items become more or less valuable over time, rather than setting a "default price" that everyone must conform to. Let's say the raccoon could buy a musk ox carcass for 48 SC (2 SC per use) - someone who wants SC fast would likely sell to the raccoon rather than selling to a player who actually really needs that food. The game encourages you to sell to other players in order to get the SC you desire from rare items.

Now that doesn't mean that some things couldn't still change. You're completely right, the decor items are horribly overpriced. Den slots are already incredibly expensive as is, leaving players with literally nothing to spend on the horribly overpriced decorations and backgrounds. It's just not worth it. We should have a CONSTANT option of getting SC other than JUST the trading center, and removing the cap on how much SC the raccoon has would greatly help imo. Every time I'm trying to grind for SC with the raccoon, I slowly increase in wealth until the cap, and then I stagnate. This feature is not helpful for anyone.

As for raising the prices, while I don't think they should ever be necessarily FAIR, I do think certain items could receive a boost. Maybe items could sell for 1 SC per use—this is lower than the TC, but passable. Rarer items could go for a bit more (maybe their initial price could be doubled).

TLDR: I don't support raising the prices to be actually good, but I do support bumping them up a little. I support that the decor prices suck and should be changed, and I support taking away the cap on SC.

I totally get you and agree with your idea! I wasnt necessarily saying to super raise the prices, tho I see that I didnt Express myself well. Per use could definitely work, specially with food items
