Hey everyone! One of the things that first caught my eye when signing up and playing with the custom wolf maker was the plethora of, well unnatural coat colours and marking combinations that we can place on our wolves and I got very, very excited. For me, throwing tons of odd and strange colour combinations that one wouldn't see in the wild made me excited at the prospects of playing with others whose goal might be the same as mine. Hence creating the idea of.......

Mythical Beasts will be a group/clan working together to create the most mythical wolves imaginable, of course though you are free to take part in other groups/clans and still be apart of this one. However, I noticed that I wasn't entirely sure what groundwork I wanted for creatures that are "mythical" and so wanted to do a big reach out to literally everyone. If you think you might be interested in helping to found this clan and be a member of it, here are some of the aspects I'm looking at:

  • Which base coats should be considered mythical?
  • Which markings should be considered mythical?
  • Which mutations should be considered mythical?
  • Competitions? Like maybe: ugliest fiend, most beautiful legend, best-dressed beast, breed in the mythical,  collaborations/competitions with other groups/clans. etc etc
  • Giveaway like things such as: Christmas Santa, trick-or-treat, wolvden aniversary give-aways etc
  • Should there be a discord?

If you're interested in helping me found this send me a message or leave a post down below with ideas etc. If enough people are gracious enough to help I might make a discord group to communicate easier. Thanks a lot for reading c:

I like this! My goal rn is to get to Realgar and make some hellishly fiendish wolves, so I’d love if this were made a thing!

I’m definitely interested in something like this! I’m rather partial to bright and unnatural colors for the wolves (despite my pack leader at the moment lol), and I love the idea of possibly making wolves that take after monsters of myth!

In my opinion, discords are always helpful, so long as they’re managed properly... And there are some solid—enforced—ground rules as to what kind of behavior is, and isn’t acceptable within the channel. Still, they’re extremely beneficial, especially to founders of clans when it comes to planning events and giveaways, and tracking participation for stuff!

Anyhow, this idea has my definite interest! Let me know if you do wind up pursuing this! :3

Thanks so much for the interest! Meant to put up a 2nd post with my ideas and whatnot. Feel free to comment debate, whatever you think with some of these ideas c:

Note: None of the images come from me, and instead are listed in the Grouse House Guide to Genetics. Please go give them some love! Cause otherwise,I wouldn't be able to showcase coat colours etc so easily.

Current definition for a mythical coat colour: contains colours or colour shades not found in wolves. Natural wolf colours included: black, white, grey, brown/tawny, silver, blonde, "red" (more like a red-brown than red, for example red wolves). A wolf can still be considered mythical without having a mythical coat/base colour by it's markings or mutations.

Cool Colours category for unnatural coat colours accepted: - NOT COMPLETED

Light Tier I

FHoktCZ.png

Honeydew -The reason why is because of the slight green hint that honeydew has. Not 100% sure about this one and still up for debate.

6gIw2Fn.png

Glaucous - Has an overall blue tint throughout its colour. The top of the coat is also a brown-red tint. Glaucous however is definitely one of those more "natural colours" leaving room for questioning.

Light Tier II

BdkUc3Y.png

Lavender - It's well, lavender. Pretty sure there haven't been any real-life coats found with this colour so safe bet to say it is mystic.

nAVaFJx.png

Pale - On first glance it looks like it's fully grey, but there is some major navy blue sprinkled in as well, hence not realistic.

IWuJ78x.png

Sky - Contains light blue sprinkled throughout the entire coat.

7rTSBZN.png

Opal - Contains hints of light blue, and a very light lavender/purple tint.

Medium Bases

Medium Tier I

Blue - Very much a blue-grey colour within the coat.

Khaki - The wolf is green.

Medium Tier II

Diorite - Speckles of blue can be found throughout the coat.

Galena - Blueish-grey hue in the coat.

Maltese - Stark blue found in the coat.

Muted bases - Completed

Light Tier I

All of these are variations of "blonde" wolf colours you can find (at least from my glance), hence aren't unnatural in a sense.

Light Tier II

6C6gH7C.png

Feldspar - Contains colours like pink throughout the coat.

LwcT0f8.png

Isabel - Looks like a grey pink if that makes any sense.

P1txyjf.png

Peach - Contains pink throughout the coat.

Light Tier III

pccucQd.png

Teardrop - Unusual colour patterns, while containing pink through the coat.

5ovKj7h.png

Zircon - Contains the light pink/purple grey colour throughout the coat.

Medium Bases

Medium Tier I

After some thought, personally decided they would not be included. I am a bit on the fence about Honey though... The problem isn't the colour but how it is everywhere. I saw some pictures of wolves close to this shade range but of course with white or black on them..

Medium Tier II

All of these look like pretty realistic colours for wolves and hence don't count.

Medium Tier III

pvmpLbP.png

Lily - Contains pink within the coat colour.

Dark Bases

Dark Tier I

None. All colour ranges can be found on natural wolves. Usually not on all of the coat but still applies

Dark Tier II

Ebony - Looks like to me that it has really dark purple undertones throughout the coat.

Sepia - Contains a pinkish-red throughout the coat.

Dark Tier III

Seal - Contains redish-orange like highlights in the coat.

Bronze - Contains unusual markings and a dark blue hue to the darker parts of the coat.

Warm bases go here:

Monochrome Bases  (COMPLETED)

After a lot of deliberation, I decided that none of the monochrome bases would count. While some of them do have some very unusually marking patterns, they are all a variation of colours found naturally in wolves.

Special Bases (Completed)

Almandine - Gorgeous base, filled with reds. Mystical in nature.

Markings and mutations counted for this go in this post.

Markings - After some thought, I decided that dog-like markings, i.e Irish, husky, merle etc will not count unless like all other markings they come in some unnatural colour or are displayed in conjunction with other markings in such a way it can't possibly look realistic. While obviously these markings are not found in wild wolves, crossings between wolves and dogs is possible meaning in theory these genes can pass on. I also want to prevent a situation where most of the wolves represented in contests etc look more like dogs than unnatural beings.

Markings that do count - Based on colour: Auburn, Red, Zircon. Based on specific markings - I decided to be a lot more open-ended with this. I have personally seen some wolves with natural marking and marking colours done in such a fashion they look completely unrealistic. Since this is going to be a more open-ended clan, without too strict rules I didn't want to have to nitpick each one. In terms of contests and a possible studs/sales board, each wolf will be judged on a case by case basis.

Mutations - All the known mutations in the game currently (at least to my knowledge) are realistic hence I'm unsure if I would want to include them as an unnatural aspect. Might have to wait until more strange mutations pop up.

I like this idea. I have three khaki base wolves and have come up with lore (in my head) for them how they are animated from moss and mud by forest gods. Not exactly mythical but definitely unnatural. I’m going to take a look at the base list and see of there’s more (besides khaki) that I suggest adding to the “unnatural list”.

Looking through the bases again, beside the ones you mention I would suggest khaki, serpentine, arkose, red, and mojave. Khaki on actual wolves looks extremely green to me- not sure if it’s my screens, but I noticed the base examples aren’t as noticeable as “living” wolves are to me. In a similar fashion, the red base seems very bright and unnatural to me and a little more muted in the example. However you end up deciding, I support your idea for this project and hope it’s a success!
