Just a few questions

Just a few questions
Posted 2021-01-14 15:21:06 (edited)

Hello! I've been playing for 4 days and I have just a few questions for a more experienced player!

  1. What is the best way to make SC? It seems to take me quite a while, at least compared to Lioden. Is that normal?
  2. What is the best way to get better wolves? What is viewed as a "good" genetic combination? What genes are " valuable"?
  3. Is there a way to breed my male wolves outside my pack?

Those are my questions for now, I will post more as I think of them.

the best way to make sc is probably via a decent stud. a decent stud usually has 10 markings, several rare makings, high stats (500+), at least a tier 2 base and lower lineages are preferred but not super important. unfortunately, with tier 3s having been recently introduced tier 2 studs aren't as popular, but if you have a nice one you should make a decent amount off of them. if you can't get a nice stud, or if your stud isn't popular for whatever reason, the daily quests will give you a decent amount of sc. selling pups is kind of hit or miss. pups usually sell for cheap (unless they're a tier 3, or have a mutation or something), however, you can buy female adols/pups for cheap, wait a bit, and sell them for around 250-450 sc when they're in heat. females in heat go really quickly. that's mostly how i've been surviving. and yes, it's way easier to make sc in lioden.

i can't list every good gene, just look up wolvden markings and it'll show you all the markings and their tiers. at this point, tier 3s and wolves with mutations are the highest in demand. fox, het and glass eyes are valuable too.

you can only stud out one breeding male. the only way to breed non breeding males is via a pair bond within your own pack.

hope this helps!

What is a pair bond?

it's like wolf marriage. sex doesn't matter, you can place two males in a pair bond, or two females, but if you want to produce pups the pair bond has to be a male and female pair (for obvious reasons). it basically allows you to breed male wolves other than your stud with your pack females. but, whereas a stud can breed with as many females in a pack as you want, a normal male in a pair bond can only breed with his bonded female, there's also a limited amount of pair bonds. the more territory you have, the more pair bonds you can have.

i probably explained that poorly, there's a quest for it that goes more in depth that you should do. or just go to your den, look under "breeding" and then go to the pair bonding tab.

The pair bonding quest will be made available after you've played for 30 days! And making SC is tough at the beginning. Once you start having excess food sell it on the TC for 3SC per use. You can also sell spare toys there.

  1. What is the best way to make SC? It seems to take me quite a while, at least compared to Lioden. Is that normal?

It does take a bit to grind up SC. This is mostly due to the newness of the game and the fact that it's missing several key features that will help make earning SC easier. There are no mini-games and the market for buying up wolves and wolf pups is quite poor unless you meet certain conditions. Here are some ways that I've managed to build up SC.

First, work on having one or two good hunting teams and sell the extra meat. Carcasses can be sold for a decent amount in the Trading Center (TC). Even if you only sell the meat at 2sc per use you can still make a good amount of cones. I also sell any meat chunks, single use food items, and extra recipes to the racoon.

Second,  complete those daily quests! You can get about 100-150 sc upon completion. The amount seems to be random.

Third, Sell extra healing salves and lucky feet. You can get anywhere from 100-160 sc per 5 salves or Lucky Feet.

Fourth, selling gc. If you have the means and the desire to use real world money you can always buy gc and sell it in the TC. GC typically go at a 1:80 ratio.

Finally, as mentioned above, having a good stud. I find though this can be the most inconsistent. In order to even stand a chance at catching people's eyes you will need to have a TII or higher base and 7 or more markings. Even then it's not the best way. One week I may only get one request and the next I could have five. The only way you'll be seeing much profit from this is if you have some rare markings, a mutation, super high stats, and/or a TIII Base. Combining these makes your wolf look more desireable.

  1. What is the best way to get better wolves? What is viewed as a "good" genetic combination? What genes are " valuable"

The best way to get better wolves it to buy them or breed with top tier studs, both of which can get pricey. Generally speaking a valuable wolf has very high stats, some form of mutation, rare markings, or a TIII base. Combining these features makes them more desireable. For example, a wolf that has the albino mutation, has the TIII Fox base, and has multiple rare markings would be considered highly valuable and would easily net in several hundred GC if someone were to sell it.

  1. Is there a way to breed my male wolves outside my pack?

You can only stud one wolf at a time. Doing so makes that wolf available to other players to breed with. Be careful about this choice though. It costs 20gc to retire them from that position.

The only other way I can think of is if you traded your male to another player, they paired that wolf with a female, bred the pair, the returned the male to you once they were able.

How do wolves get sick?

Your wolves will be immune to illness for the first 5 days of playing. Then you'll get a tutorial quest from Tala for how to do the herbalist things. There are various ways for wolves to get sick. Most common is hunters coming back from hunts with open wounds, but they can get other illnesses too. Scouts can also come back from scouting sick. Your lead can get sick from various explore encounters. And wolves have a chance of illness on rollover (rollover is also when untreated wolves may spread their illness through the pack). This guide has specifics about what illnesses can be contracted and how.
