hetero eye questions

hetero eye questions

hello everyone, i have an adol in my pack named blondie. her father is hetero brown and blue, but blondie’s eyes are white. does this mean that she would be able to breed with a black-eyed wolf and get a black and white hetero or should she only breed with wolves who have blue or brown eyes?

thanks!

It looks like eye genetics only depend on the two wolves being bred (handy guide), so breeding Blondie with a black eyed wolf would give a chance at black/white hetero, while blue or brown wouldn't give blue/brown hetero eyes since she doesn't have blue or brown eyes..

ok! so what if i bred her with a black/white hetero? would it increase the chance at all of hets?

That's a good question! I think that would, since the options would be black/white hetero or white (and the colors they could fail to, of course - white, black, ice, or grey). There would be roughly a 25% chance for black/white hetero, if I'm understanding the guide correctly (and assuming it's 100% accurate).

thank you so much! and i’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but what does “fails to” mean? i saw it on the eye guide and was super confused lol

No worries at all-asking's a great way to learn! From my understanding, when it says "fails to", it's indicating to the colors that result when two parents are bred and have pups with a different eye color from either.

So if I bred a wolf with white eyes and a wolf with yellow eyes:
50% chance of having one of the parents' eye color
--This would be split to a 25% chance of white eyes and a 25% chance of yellow eyes
That means that the other 50% of the time, there's not just (in this case) white or yellow eyes on the pups. These would be the "fails".
--From the data they'd gathered, the pups could have ice, gray, or black (from the white eyes failing to pass to the pups) or orange or brown (from the yellow eyes failing to pass to the pups)
