The hunting problem

The hunting problem

Okay so everyone knows the how hunting works right?

the thing is that out of twenty hunts you send your wolfs on only one or two would bring back food

look all I want is for it to be less of a random number generator that nine times out of ten decides to not provide my pack so that I don’t loose them all

So there are a few things that determine how effective your hunting party is. 1st, you want to make sure their personalities don't cause conflict. You can pay the  personality snake and it will tell you if there are issues or you look up hunting guides.
2nd, High proficiency means the hunting party is more likely to bring back food. This can only be raised with hunting so you kinda have to be patient and keep at it. As it gets higher you'll bring back more food.
3rd, the scent trails do matter. Larger prey are harder to take down vs critters or small animals.

4th, the biome matters as well. The easy, starter biomes are the easiest to hunt in. If you move away from those three it's better to have a high stated hunting party as low stat wolves are less likely to bring back food in those areas, even if they have good proficiency and no personality problems.
5th, try to pick wolves with the proper stats for specific roles. A chaser should be high in speed and agility, a finisher should be high in strength, and the stalker should be high in smarts and wisdom.

6th, winter is hard to hunt in. Even the best party will be failing most of the time, so make sure to have some food reserves during that season.

That's pretty much it. As someone who's been playing the game consistently since it officially opened I've had no real problems keeping my pack of wolves fed and entertained. It can just take some time to build up a good hunting party.
