Personal Wolf Wants & Aspirations

Personal Wolf Wants & Aspirations
Posted 2020-12-24 03:47:21 (edited)

Hi there!

My stud recently produced over 100 pups, which I was thinking "that should be an achievement" then I couldnt help but think "but how would that work? Would it be total produced by a stud in your pack or what?" Then I thought of a fun brilliant idea.

Wolves have their own wants / aspirations!

Wants give a small amount of experience, while aspirations give small to medium to large amounts depending in the aspiration difficulty.

Wants would be daily and reset at rollover, while aspirations would stay on your wolf until its completed. Wants dont start occuring until your wolf has been given a role. Each wolf has 10 aspirations in that wolves life time, aspiration progress.

First aspiration for all wolves: Be given a role

Role aspirations: (hunters unlock the aspiration tree when they have 1% profieciency in that role, the aspiration tree would switch if they got more profieciency experience in another role OR be able to assign sub-hunting roles to wolves in a hunting party to unlock aspiration tree)

Stalkers: Dont lose the scent of a prey on a hunt | be able to detect a medium scent trail | be able to detect a large scent trail | get stalking profieciency to 100% | detect 50 large scent trails | detect 100 large scent trails | detect 300 large scent trails | detect 500 large scent trails | detect 1000 large scent trails

Chasers: Successfully chase down a prey during a hunt | be successful in 20 hunts | be successful in 40 hunts | get chasing profieciency to 100% | be successful in 60 hunts | be successful in 80 hunts | be successful in 100 hunts | be successful in 500 hunts | be successful in 1000 hunts

Finishers:  Successfully take down a prey during a hunt | be successful in 20 hunts | be successful in 40 hunts | get finishing profieciency to 100% | be successful in 60 hunts | be successful in 80 hunts | be successful in 100 hunts | be successful in 500 hunts | be successful in 1000 hunts

Pup sitters: Protect a pup | successfully protect a pup until adolescence | successfully protect 5 pups to adolescent | protect 10 pups to adolescent | protect 20 pups to adolescence | protect 30 pups to adolescent | protect 40 pups to adolescent | protect 50 pups to adolescent | protect 100 pups to adolescent

Scouts: Re/Scout a easy biome | re/scout a medium biome | re/scout a difficult biome | re/scout a challenging biome | have scouted 10 times | have scouted 25 times | have scouted 50 times | max scouting profieciency | collect 100 amusement items during rescouts

Stud/Breeding male: Produce a pup | Mate with a pack member | Mate with a wolf outside of the pack | Mate with 10 total wolves | Refresh a stud slot |Have produced a litter of 5 or more  | Produce 100 pups | Produce 500 pups | Produce 1000 pups

Wolf Wants: (wolves would randomly be given 1 want per rollover, if a wolf qualifies under multiple want categories its randomly picked)

Any wolf: Level up, be assigned a breeding pair (only if theyre not already in one), gain a stat increase

Females in heat: Breed with a male | use a pasque flower | use jupiner berries

Any hunting role: Be successful in a medium hunt | be successful in a large hunt | be successful in 3 hunts | Be successful in 5 hunts | be successful in 7 hunts

Scouts: Re/scout 3 times | find 2 amusement items on a rescout | find 4 amusement items rescouting | find 6 amusement items rescouting | gain a stat while re/scouting

Pup sitters: Dont have any pups gain an illness | Have a pup under their protection | Dont have any pups die at rollover | Have a pup at 100% survival with their protection | Have 2 pups under their protection

Stud/Breeding Male: Breed to a female, breed to 3 females

Pros: Would provide a little bit of an experience boost per day with wants, and a moderate experience boost when completing an aspiration, gives more personality/character to each wolf.

Cons:

  1. Could be abused if aspirations arent locked after a line is picked,
  2. could be abused if aspiration progress isnt saved after switching aspiration lines by going back and forth between roles.
  3. Having a stud stuck in a hunter/sitter/scout tree when you want to do the stud aspiration tree
  4. Lots of code to implement this

Fixes for cons:

  1. Have it so either all hunting roles have the same aspiration tree or make it so when you create a party you need to assign them a sub-role which unlocks the aspiration tree,
  2. have aspiration trees save their progress so someone cant switch roles just to keep doing the easy aaspiration
  3. When you set a breeding male or set another role to your breeding male a pop up window will ask you which aspiration tree you would like to complete, once one is completed it goes to the other

I want to thank you for your time for reading all of this, I hope you liked the idea!

This actually looks really interesting, I think it'd be cool!

I think this is a really good idea and it makes the game a little more interactive. Instead of just doing the same thing every day (feeding your wolves, hunting, exploring) this gives a chance to have some variety!

And maybe add different tiers of roles and make certain aspirations required to complete for the wolf to level up into that next tier of role (think the sims where you have to complete certain tasks to qualify for a promotion).

For example a wolf in a hunting role could graduate and get the role of a hunt chief or hunt lead or something, while still retaining their basic role of chaser, stalker, finisher, etc. But it doesn't necessarily have to be a new title, it could be "Chaser Tier II" for example, and they could get a boost to their exp gain and success rate for example.

It would also be a fun way to in-cooperate the personalities. At the moment it only matters what group they are in but if you had "special" aspirations for scatterbrained, malicious, ext... it would really give them personality.

I would definitely be interested in seeing something like this added to the game. I support!

I am absolutely not fond of the "be successful in 5 hunts" examples - I've had quite enough of having to fight against the RNG for that sort of thing with the snake quests.

Otherwise the idea is sort of interesting. So long as these wants and aspirations are ones I can still have control over instead of ones imposed on me so that I can keep wolves on the paths I'd like them to have for my lore, I'm willing to support.

I really love your guy's additions to this idea, (its funny the sims was mentioned bc my idea was inspired from there as well). It would be really cool to see each personality have their own wants for sure! But I know thats not something that would come until way later. Having some wants be personality based would also give a way for pups and adols to be able to complete them and gain some experience before adulthood

The reason I put the "X amount of hunts" for some is bc it incentivises breeding to get better stats (besides just being more successful in harder biomes) and it adds the opportunity to fail some wants which failing some needs to be able to happen for balancing purposes.

A wolf with better stats is say more likely to complete a more difficult want as well as a more difficult one giving more experience. As the experience given should be based on the difficulty of the wolves want, and the difficulty should be determined by:

Wolf stats, wolf profieciency in that role and in hunting parties synergy should effect that as well

Fully support!

This would definitely give each wolf a little more personality, having wants and dreams, etc. Plus more to strive for is always good for engagement.

Anyone who doesn't want to acknowledge the aspirations wouldn't be pressured to either, since it would just be a boost to their original growth.
