How do YOU play/build your pack?

Posted 2020-12-18 06:54:25

my main goals would be: stats & keeping my pack clean lined - prior to the breeding update, i was mostly studding to other males, so that my wolves were not all related

hence playing for stats,, i intend (key word, intend LMAO), to not breed any wolves until they're max level (or nearly there) just purely to get maximum potential out of them. that being said, i've made a few exceptions! my scout is quite old (7+) and has some decent stats, so i've bred her, because she will likely die long before she gets max level, & ofc then wouldn't be able to breed. it would be a shame. so she has provided me with a new scout after she passes.

my playstyle could be described as more..generational, I suppose. I intend for my next leader to be offspring of my leader & her companion, & that's how i intend to play overall! they will always be related.

& for the rest of my pack.. you could consider something similar. with intentions to attempt to reach max level before breeding my wolves, and even then, it will likely only be to ensure the next pack member to take their role! so once my hunters get older.. i intend to breed them, so they can produce the next stalker, chaser, finisher, for the pack once they pass on. since wolves get stats depending on their role (as each role has different stat uses), it seems like the best idea, so they can create an even better hunting party in the future.

while none of my pack is special (most are nbws from the start!), i have little interest in super rare markings etc. i'm not here to breed to make cash (market is over saturated as is), im here for my own progression. get wolves to max level, & play generationally :')

Interesting ideas Bad Wolfittude! I definitely want my leads to be offspring of my current leader. Now that we have pair bonding I can make her and her original companion mates again!

I’ve been looking through the different options for coloring wolves and I think the marbled nose is so cute! Maybe I’ll eventually breed a marbled nosed pack c:

Ahaha, I have no plans :D Kind of. Ideally I want a pack full of high stats and monochrome (or desaturated cool) bases, but I’m not too picky about how to get there; studding and buying others’ pups are not off the table. Breeding I do more for fun (and to test my slim chances for a lethal) than with the expectation of anything good, and if I get high enough stats and/or a pretty pup that warrants keeping, it’s a happy accident!

Tbh I’m mostly here for lore and rolling with whatever the game throws at me; even if one of my starter NBWs dies without (kept) offspring, their story is still gonna be important to the pack as a whole. Maybe the next lead will be related to the current, maybe not; it sounds like a fun challenge that would make for a cool lineage, but if a better unrelated candidate pops up I’m not gonna say no.

I was originally gonna go on a biome-exclusive background collection spree too, but upon realizing they break and can’t even stick to dynasty wolves, I scrapped that idea. Current secondary goal instead is a slowburn move to the glacier, biome by biome & year by year, and pausing to train if hunting starts getting unmanageably hard. As it is, my core hunters went from picking up large carcasses fairly regularly in the mountains, to maybe one a day in the deciduous forest. Not complaining, though! The extra challenge is good for both lore and ongoing interest >:3

Oh man, how cool would it be to show off your decoration or background collection on dynasty wolves? I haven't used them much, but they all get returned to your inventory after the wolf dies, right?

I did do a lot of experimental breeding just to see what pups looked like. The litters were all spaced out nicely where they were all at different stages, so my pupsitter always had pups but no more than one litter was born within the same few days.

I'm working on exploring the rainforest now, finally got some wolves with enough strength stats. After that I might work on the tundra, but I haven't checked in a while to see if I have anyone with a high enough wisdom stat.

Yup, decor and backgrounds get auto-returned on wolf death. There’s a suggestion here to change that, which I support; it just feels like a shame to deck out a wolf and then bam, they’re all default again.

Spacing out breedings is a good idea :0c Keeps the pupsitter busy, avoids pack overwhelm, makes for interest daily as pups grow/are born… Might have to “steal” that idea next round of breedings, tbh! Do you schedule that to make sure they’re all born in a certain season, or would that include winter litters?

I don’t thiiink the Tundra has a stat minimum? The only stat minimums I’ve heard of are the Rainforest and Glacier—unless less-difficult biomes also have stat walls, and scouts are usually just able to get by without hitting it 🤔

I definitely thought it did, but I was just able to send one of my scouts there :o  I wonder what was stopping them before? Maybe I accidentally tried to send one out with no energy or something and assumed it had to do with stats.

I was actually just lucky I think, in that all my female wolves were in heat at different times. I bred them every time they were heat for maybe 3 rounds of pups? This month was the first time I didn't breed anyone. I didn't pay any attention to the season, I think my leads last 2 litters were in winter. I also forgot to nest probably 5 different litters. Only had pups die on the last one that I forgot though. The last litter I had was born in winter and I wanted to see what would happen if they didn't have a pupsitter. And nothing happened xD no one got hurt or died. I was surprised! I've been having very boring roll-overs lately though, compared to ones I had in early access.

Ohh huh, maybe :o

Go figure re:that winter litter, lucky them (and you/r RNG luck, especially with the unnested litters)! Hmm, maybe I won’t be able to steal that idea then, because all my wolves seem to come into heat around the same time. Such is an early-game recruit spree ig, ah well.

What kinda stuff was happening in EA rollovers? I’ve heard about Winter being nerfed and maybe same for illnesses, idk about pup survival rates. But same boat on the boring rollover front; after my last round of breedings (most of whom I intentionally let die for ~lore spice~) I’ve basically only had lost proficiency notices from role-switched wolves and Nothing Else. Smh, even if cures aren’t too hard to come by, throw me a curveball @RNG!

If they are all around the same time you can at least try breeding on the first day of heat and then the last day? Start getting them spaced out that way!

I might just be have a lot of RNG luck right now, lol. I remember sometimes my pups would wander off and lose HP, or get bitten by a spider xD I had a few illness come about from rollovers like fever or cystitis. My lead also always had diarrhea from exploring in poop (which reminds me, she hasn't been stricken with diarrhea in a while!) that I would hardly ever cure so she was always losing HP on rollover.

I just looked through some old rollovers, and it looks like it was a lot of notifications due to pup survival chances changing, ,pups aging up, litters being born, and pupsitter +proficiency. So if you don't have pups, your rollovers are pretty boring! Now i want to breed but no one is in heat/most are on a cooldown so I can't even use my elk heart on my new pairing  ;_;

Edit: went on the trading center and bought a female in heat xD might send her out scouting today to level up a few times before breeding her!

My packs has a few focuses

- Clean Breeding Lines (little outside breeding)

- I did change the founding wolves coats/markings but I'm going to avoid changing their offspring' markings. Only the studs, which is an outside wolf, will have their markings/coat altered.

- Currently focusing on hunting and gathering herbs

That’s what I wanted to do originally too! It was fun total shuffling my NBWs then I wanted to see what i could do with the offspring. I did just up the marking opacity on some of my trading center bought wolves though xD
