This could be at least a partial solution to the slog that the RNG makes of leveling and biome trekking: if a wolf is a certain level threshold above an opponent, then the player should have an "overpower" or "auto-kill" option available to achieve an automatic victory. The maneuver should probably be on the pricier side in terms of energy expenditure, but that would be preferable to, say, a level 15 wolf losing 3/4 of its hit points to a level 5 opponent and getting a pittance of XP in return for it.

Support, but I'd prefer to just have it be automatic and not spend much energy when you're a ridiculous number of levels above your opponent. After all, with the current system, if the RNG is on my side that day, I can make an opponent bleed in the first few turns, then spend the rest of the fight resting/waiting. Indeed, that's currently the only viable strategy that I've found so far, and even then sometimes the RNG just hates you.

Support, its ridiculous to lose much energy or health for a enemies 9+ levels lower than you. (Unless its a bear, but those follow a different difficulty level)
