I saw a book thread and as a librarian I feel compelled to join. While my reading time has seriously diminished these days I do occasionally have time to read something new when I'm not drowning myself in games or graphic novels. I'm currently waiting for my work's copy of Mexican Gothic to get in but the last thing that I've managed to fully read was the book adaptation of the Omen and Justine by The Marquis de Sade. The second was due to curiosity after it being mentioned in the source book for a Call of Cthulhu campaign I was running, or rather the author was mentioned, and I me being me I had to see why it was mentioned. My favorite books tend to change based on my mood but overall I really adore Sherlock Holmes books and Dracula and I even collect different editions of them both. 

I have mexican gothic on my kindle and hope to read it soon! I have also read some H. P. Lovecraft and own a leatherbound book of all his works.

I'm currently reading the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher. It's a little slow, but it has some great, suspenseful action sequences. The series is high fantasy (I think?), but has some strong military and political-intrigue plotlines. Sometimes the pacing is off, and by god is he TERRIBLE at writing romance subplots, but overall the story is fun to sink my teeth into!

I mainly read sci-fi and fantasy books. * u * Now and then I dabble in other genres. I normally only read non-fiction when I'm actively trying to learn something.

My favorite books/series are probably --

YA: Protector of the Small series by Tamora Peirce

Kel, and her character development over the series is my favorite!

Urban Fantasy: The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

They're engaging, and they typically give me some good laughs/chuckles. (I have a terrible, punny sense of humor, so I can't guarantee you'll find them funny haha).

Non-fiction: The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell

This book changed a lot of the ways I thought about interactions with my dog. I found it fascinating and insightful.

Science Fiction: Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey

So weird/scary/gross/unpleasant, but fun?

Fiction: The Art of Racing in the Rain By Garth Stein

Oh my god. All the tears, if you've ever been super bonded to a dog.

Fantasy: Paladin of Souls by Lois McMaster Bujold

This book tied closely with some of my experiences and fears. It was also refreshing to have a middle-aged/older woman as the protagonist of a fantasy novel. The new perspective was interesting and delightful. There were only a handful of cringe-y parts.

I totally understand. Plus, Leviathan Wakes is suuuper lonnngggg. I listened to the audiobook, and it was nearly 21 hours long hahaha

My favorite book series of all time is The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron. It's a fantasy series, five books long, but you can usually find it in two compendiums, made up of books 1-3 and 4-5. If you like unusual magic systems, heist stories, and/or talking dogs, I highly recommend it!

And, at the risk of sounding very vain, I actually self-published a book myself not too long ago; No God's Land by L.R. Llewellyn

Edit: Cannot BELIEVE I forgot to mention this one; if you like high fantasy and you like wolves (which you probably do, since you're here) you should check out the Firekeeper saga by Jane Lindskold. Magical, super intelligent wolves, and a girl who was raised by them!
