Woes of the Market

Posted 2020-12-06 18:12:19

It feels to me like the game is weirdly structured - it's a breeding sim, so they want you to breed your wolves. You can't keep many pups because of space limitations and the only way to get rid of them is to either sell them or chase them, the latter of which is essentially just deleting them, since they can't even be found as NBWs unless they're adults. So the game seems to also want you to sell your pups. But there's not much incentive to sell pups when you can breed them. Anyone who likes breeding isn't going to be buying pups very often, and anyone who doesn't like breeding probably isn't going to be playing the game at all. The game just isn't very welcoming to players who want to play more casually and not immediately rush for every rare base/marking the game has to offer - there's nowhere for them to put the puppies the game is designed for them to breed.

For sure. And den spaces are so expensive, as someone said before, that people can't afford to have many wolves. A good chunk of the possibilities this site has to offer are objectively worse than alternatives, meaning they are unsellable.

T1 wolves (unless monster stat.)
Non-stud male wolves.
And now non BO markings are becoming unsellable.

Because you have to be so selective, people will generally only buy high stat, t2, female wolves with BO markings or mutations/mutation carriers.Β

I'm one of those people. My only t1s are my starters, a few NBWs that are too high proficiency for me to want to get rid of, and two wolves I bought as a noob. After they die I guarantee I will never keep a t1 again, and considering t1s make up the bulk of the wolves... it's pretty sad how much of a downgrade they are. I'm trading out my lower stat t2s for better ones even now... and literally watching the market plummet as I do so. 400 stat wolves are even starting to go at prices that I would consider cheap, because it is so hard to sell pups.

In my opinion, as someone who is still new to Wolvden, I think it's fairly absurd that most pups are less expensive than herbs you can find while exploring. I personally don't care about tiers or rare markings - just stats and looks, but it's already loud and clear that you better be breeding good pups for selling/studding or you won't get very far, since sc seems (so far) pretty difficult to grind. You make practically no sc from exploring, and unless someone's looking for a daily quest item, there isn't much use in selling carcasses.

Sadly, if you don't have sex changers, males are practically useless, unless they're absolutely stunning. And so far, GC seems difficult to obtain unless you start getting Tier II females, or other means, like selling art, winning contests, etc.

i think the problem is many new players dont know how to properly grind for sc. you have to be active on wolvden to truly grind for it, just like lioden and flightrising. its a learned skill but its not extremely hard to learn, just takes quick thinking, and yes, this is without pup sales. again people are ignoring that this is a brand new game and as such it does not have a lot of variety or rarity yet. it takes time to get to that place. we dont even have games that give sc yet or custom decors, calm down 0_0

SC may be hard to grind for in a single day, but if you do a lot of quests and sell whatever valuable items you get, it usually becomes a lot easier to save for over time. The real problem with the hard grind for SC is the way it devalues GC. The conversion rate is about 75 SC : 1 GC, and it makes GC practically useless unless you want to buy a bunch of art, wolves, or send out stud requests. Why buy GC when it's useless to the base game? You could just.. stud request with SC, buy modifiers with SC, get art with SC, buy wolves with SC, the list goes on. Overall, it's just more efficient to pay with SC than pay more with GC, in some cases.

I spend quite a lot of time on Wolvden daily. I usually complete my daily quests, and I explore whenever I have the chance. I do like this game, and I understand it's new. I'm just saying it feels a bit non-noob friendly. I've had to rely on mostly forum posts from beta-testers and other forums to even get a handle on this game.Β

While it is new, I enjoy games with a sense of economy, and I can already see that the supplies are so high (supply being there's a lot of puppies) so the demand is low (a lot of puppies no one wants, so they're just chased).

With this in mind, I still intend to keep playing Wolvden. I like this game a lot so far. The market just needs time to chill out I guess.

i think with some learning youll get far, many people do. sadly this game is just really hard! i felt the same way at one point but im pretty well off now. weve got a long way to go with the pup market. the big glaring issues are:

- not a lot of variety. t3s and harder to pass marks WILL fix this. i doubt muties will truly overrun the market since theyre hard to get even if youre well off. ive spent 5,000+ sc on my hunt for a melanistic, and im still bleeding money as we speak.

- theres no way of knowing a minimum pup price. we dont have something like the adoption center or gorilla enclave that allows us to get rid of potato pups without chasing them, and we dont have a way to trade them in for rewards. with how much its being reccommended though, i doubt its too far away.

we all see it, not just new players! ive had difficulty selling pups too and am mostly doing it to see if i can get pretty pups to add to my pack as pupsitters and hunters.

In my opinion if people chased 9/10 of their pups instead of trying to sell everything there would be fewer available on the market which in turn would improve their value. I see so many TC pups that aren't worth 5sc where people are saying "good home only, will block if resell or chase!1!" I basically chase everything. I only have a large amount now from breeding to melas so need to test breed to find carriers once they are old enoughΒ

i def agree with scarlet. this next batch i breed (born tomorrow) is gonna get really picky. im only keeping wolves that i want to KEEP, not sell. the markets bad cause lets be real here, t1s arent always the prettiest or most unique things.

Since EA i have chased basically everything unless it was a particularly cute T1 and early on I only tried to sell desirable T2 pups. Didn't take me long to realize there was no point in trying to sell them really to the general player base. Now I just ping friends to see if they want any of my unwanted or could make use of them. From time to time I may still try to sell to the general player base though nothing frustrates me more then someone offering 3sc on a T2 pup that is worth much more then that due to a combination of factors.
