Woes of the Market

Posted 2020-12-06 08:27:31

Oof.. I feel ya’, my guy. The puppy market is pretty much trash, I have a better time with selling healing salves and lucky feet which people barely ever use!! Breeding wolves and selling em’ for some sweet cash (even if they were potatoes) is what I was expecting when I first started out and played the breeding quest, but to sell a pup now, they’d have to be:

  • A mutation/mutation carrier. And they have to fill both mutation slots >:(
  • Extremely high stat; 500+ stats, no 499’ers.
  • have like every good/combo marking ever, and all marking slots MUST be filled
  • Be descendants of the best wolves in this game (I mean the wolves on the leaderboards)
  • T3 bases, even if they don’t exist
  • and Finally, never can they EVER be inbred- nope, never ever. That’s a big boy sin. >:(

Dang, I hadn’t realized everyone was having so much trouble with selling pups. Just kinda though people were hitting dry spells :/

It's jut not worth it. It's understandable that people want those rare markings or bases, but coupled with the gameplay itself it means that only a handful of people can profit from the market.

the problem is the lack of new breedable content, and i mean like DEPENDABLE breeding. mutations like melanism are on the rise because this is a new dependable breeding method. at this point virtually everyone has a T2, combo mark/base, merle, intuit or tamask. the only issue is melanism is pricey to get into and usually only ppl (like myself) who have been here since EA are able to do it, and even then its still bank-breaking. i love the recent updates but we need things that are going to revitalize the market, new non-NBW markings, t3 bases, mutie breeding items, custom decors, etc.

back when EA and partially PA started, pups selled extremely well. but now that everyone has the big sellers, the market is going down because the new "big sellers" are pricey to get into. so yeah we just need an update, it wont be like this forever

My next stud is definitely going to be a mel or abinism carrier (albino if possible) tho I don't personally want an albino/mel myself tbh... They're pretty but all albinos look the same. Another alternative I was looking into was a b&w het wolf, which I might go for instead. My current stud is just a basic custom pecan and while he has 10 marks I made the mistake of not making him my lead so leveling him has been... a pain, to say the least, and studs need a LOT of levels.

I'm definitely looking into a more 'rare' stud in the next 3 months when my current dies. But before long, albinos and mels wont be rare anyway. I just hoped wolves with mutations or supposedly very 'rare' things like that (including monster stats/7m+) would be above the bar, not the bare minimum you need to sell consistently.

And I don't see any way the game is going to get better. It's going to get worse as things like albinism, melanism, and het eyes become more readily accessible due to breeding.

just because they will become more accessible doesnt mean that isnt what the devs wanted, for example; piebalds are genetic on lioden and still an adored mutation. also youre forgetting that brachy hasnt even been discovered yet. its a bit pesimistic to say the game will never get better because it will, its literally not even a year old. the devs definitely knew this would happen when they made some mutations genetic and some not. not to mention: melanistic and albino varients of non-genetic mutations.

The market wont, the game itself will of course get more content.

I have to agree. If a change isn’t made, the market will just get worse and worse until everything is basically unsellable and because of that the prices of things that are will skyrocket.

I actually set up a data collection spreadsheet where I'm trying to find the price of merle wolves. So far, people really like offering for high stat Tier 1's, and offer even more for high stat Tier 2. That doesn't matter though, because more often than not, merles are just not sold. Can't say for sure about other wolves, but there are about 10,000 wolves for sale in the TC, so I think I can assume they're not being sold either.
