Suggestion: tweak how wolves lose proficiencies upon leaving

Hello devs and fellow Wolvdenners!

I have had this idea floating around in my head for a while now, just never got around to actually suggesting it until today.

What I am proposing here is a change to how wolves lose proficiencies upon running from a person's pack due to neglect. As it stands, a wolf will lose all proficiency they have earned in any roles they had before they left, with the exception of hunters getting to keep their stalker, chaser, and finisher proficiencies. This proficiency takes rather a lot of hard work and grinding to gain; an herbalist must craft and forage nonstop until they've reached 100%, a scout must constantly be sent out in back to back sessions, hunters need to hunt regularly until they have run out of hunts for the day, etc. And frankly, some people just don't have the time to rebuild all of that (not counting new wolves that succeed an old one), or like me, people will lose motivation in trying to get it all back after having all of it be lost.

So, instead of having your wolves lose all of their proficiencies the moment they leave, why not have them lose a certain percentage after each day they go unclaimed? When a wolf runs, you have 3 days to reclaim it for a fee of 100 SC per, so maybe on each day the wolf loses 30-35% until it is claimed, and whatever proficiency is left is where you must start with rebuilding them. To have a wolf lose all proficiency over what could be an innocent mistake is, in my opinion, too punishing. Losing a certain amount per day wouldn't be as punishing, but punishing enough to still teach us the value of keeping our wolves contented. That'd also give players the chance to reclaim their wolves with their proficiencies fully intact, if the player reclaims on the same day they run. Or what we could do is have it be that the wolf loses an initial 20% for running, and then each day they remain unclaimed it is as stated above.

Plus, trying to get your wolves back with as much of their proficiencies still intact as possible would just give people more incentive to reclaim ASAP, which in turn may help the economy just a little too, when people have things to sell for SC to pay the fee.

I've had and am suggesting this idea because, I've been seeing a lot of people struggle on this game to keep their packs healthy and fed and buy more space, having full proficiencies is a godsend and makes the game a little easier to play, but losing all that hard work after just not having the time to really play much throughout the day and accidentally but inevitably neglecting your wolves in the process...It's just not worth playing at that point. If I and other people can't play long enough to care for their packs, then what is the point of rolling over and playing at all? People are going to get discouraged. I know I did when all that work that went into making my wolves proficient in their roles went down the drain the day I rolled and found my whole pack had ran, simply because of an accident.

Now I know this kind of responsibility is not on the devs, but on the players for keeping their wolves happy, however it would help if things were...Just a smidge easier. I really do think this will help players in the long-run, given it is a game far more overwhelming than Lioden ever was. Even in testing, the game wasn't this tough to survive in, but we also had handouts and freebies given to us that are no longer accessible, so I don't really think the simulation of what it is like now was really there.

In order for my idea to get added to the game, I think the following will be required from the devs: tweaking the code in the script that runs when wolves leave your pack from being too hungry and unhappy. Instead of completely decimating the proficiencies, set them to lose it in % chunks with an initial amount upon leaving and then steadily per day until they have either been reclaimed or no longer exist.

Thank you for considering my suggestion!

EDIT (Nov. 8, 2021): I fixed up this post's text, since it didn't seem to transfer well after the big change in how forum posts and coding works.

Huh, I didn't realize wolves lost proficiency when they ran away... Yeah, that doesn't seem reasonable. Even 30% a day seems like too much - honestly I'd just keep it to the 1% a day they normally lose whenever not doing work.  I agree that the 100 SC fee is enough of a penalty.
