Oh this is a neat thread! I've never really looked into this much, but I do sometimes have a phantom-limb sort of thing happen where I feel like I should have bird wings... like when I'm upset I imagine folding them tight against my back, or when I'm stretching out my shoulders I can almost feel them stretch out too. I've always loved birds and the sky. I wonder if it could be something like this... could I ask if anyone here's felt similar things?

Huh. Interesting. I guess I'll look more into this. Thanks!

As far as phantom stuff goes, the most common and regular experiences have been my cerata (gill tentacles on my back) and photophors (skin organs that glow with chemical light).
I have been coaxed into a full phantom shift a few times before, sometimes so deeply as full mental shift.... there are definitely different plateus of shifting and phantom feelings, in my experience.

I'd be interested in hearing what that's like for you, if you want to elaborate on it?

With cerata it's kinda like the feeling of a little tickle, like if you've ever had long hair on your back, but then it explodes out into a jungle of tentacles that I can fan and "breathe" with (the sensation of being oxygenated). They're also something I'm expressive with at points so despite a limited range of movement they are very much a part of gesticulation; pressed flat, fanned out, or standing on end.

Photophors are often just hitchiking on my natural sense of frission, any time I get a skin feel like goosebumps or blushing it's often redoubled with a sensation of cold fire or something such dancing under my skin. Brain just interprets all this as glowing and it is mildly disappointing that others can't see or otherwise detect it. I have a fair degree of control over this, but usually only when I'm in more elevated moods.

Sometimes when my partner plays with my snout I get a muzzle suddenly... pretty self explanitory.

There's also some dysmorphia I experience around phantom shifting; human form isn't ideal despite having some nice things going for it.

That sounds so interesting. I think I can relate to the dysmorphia part too. I'm... actually relating a lot to what some people in this thread have said, so I'm definitely going to have to research this more... this might be me, y'know? Thank you for elaborating!

I have common dreams of wings - not in place of my arms, but starting at the shoulder blades. In the dreams I can move them and stretch them out, and at the moment I can only really glide with them or flap them while on the ground. They don't feel strong enough to support my weight still.
Along a similar note though, when they do 'appear' on my back, I often end up being pushed up into the air, and float without the support of the wings. It's often combined with the ideals of angels.
Though now that I think about it, that may not be phantom limbs since it's in dreams. I dont know. I do shapeshift in dreams at times. (Im very dream-oriented) Perhaps I'm missing a clue somewhere like usual.
