Otherkin / therians / other-hearts

Posted 2020-12-03 07:13:41

Glad to see there's an otherkin thread around here! I'm Sephora (she/her), and I guess I could be called a feline cladotherian? I've never narrowed it down to a single feline species so I guess that's the terminology I'll go with for now. I found out about otherkin thanks to another pet site, Chicken Smoothie, probably 7 or 8 years ago but my involvement with the community has been pretty off and on, there's a reason I avoid mentioning it on tumblr anymore haha. I'd definitely be interested if we get a discord going though!

I’m a wolf and cat (felis catus) therian. I’ve felt an animal identity within me since I was a small child. I first discovered the term for how I felt by stumbling upon cringe compilations on YouTube, believe it or not. My identity is of the spiritual variety (soul splicing.)

I do have some real, ethically sourced tails that I keep on display, including:

  1. Canadian timber wolf
  2. Two coyotes
  3. Black dyed fox (my wolf theriotype is a black wolf)
  4. Coywolf

When I was around 18 I’d sometimes wear a tail on my back or side belt loop, but I stopped after a while. I don’t want my tails getting damaged or dirty, and I didn’t want to risk negative attention after being lucky enough to not have any incidents happen. Still, mad props to those who are brave enough to sport their therian gear in public spaces!

That’s all I can think of right now. Nice to see that I’m not the only therian here!

Hmmm. I'm not already one of you I guess, but I'm trying to figure things out and I thought I'd ask here since you guys already know what's up. Sorry for any multiple questions. I'm curious.

When did you find out that you were otherkin/therian/other hearted?

How did you find your type?

Hello! I'm a nudibranch-badger chimera thing! I'm fickle and shapeshifty though, and like to Mimic other things, especially moving, talking, living things. One of my friends is similarly affected and we get along famously. I'm also podmates with two lutrineptunians (synthetic space otters) who are each so delightfully therioqueer that I literally Glow at the thought of them. 💜

I experience phantom shifts pretty regularly, and mental shifts occasionally (both suddenly and involuntarily). Still trying to get the controls for that since I've only been very Awake for maybe a year and a half. It's very dependent on mood and mental health, I find.

Stopping by to say that if you are curious about exploring an otherkin identity, you should definitely try a few shapes on. Doesn't matter if you're Terran or Extraterrestrial, Organic or Synthetic, there will be beings out there happy to be family or partners on your journey.

Shout out to the Neptunian friends out there! [love+flow+glow] 💙🌊🌟

@LittlePuppy

In a way, my theriotypes just came naturally to me, like one of those “this feels right” moments. Admittedly the cat came first, but the wolf is more prominent. I can’t really name a specific moment in time that I knew.

Lol I was hoping someone else would respond and keep the thread going.

How do y'all picture your theriotypes? I imagine my wolf type to be fairly large, have black fur and fiery amber eyes. I'd say I'm also a mackenzie valley wolf, since that's the largest subspecies of Canis lupus and I feel huge when imagining myself as a wolf.

As for the cat, a silver maine coon with black stripes and the same amber/orange eyes. Sometimes a black cat. I dunno, it changes, which I think is pretty normal tbh. I never really gave much thought to what my cat theriotype would look like, though brown tabby, black, and silver tabby were "comfortable" appearances, if that makes any sense.

This is actually pretty close to what i look like. i also imagine myself to be maybe a little bigger than average for a mackenzie valley wolf

Oh, I totally forgot about this thread! I'm happy to see it revived! ^u^

My wolf theriotype's appearance is actually a bit odd - I identify as a Eurasian wolf belonging to a particular regional "morph" found in Finland and western Russia, known for their yellowish-gold fur. The picture I've found that looks most like "me" is this one. I think I was probably about average size for the subspecies (which is still pretty hefty - Eurasian wolves can rival Mackenzie Valley's for size). And I don't know what my eye colour was, but I'd guess probably yellow or light brown. Oh, and I was female. This is a past life thing for me, or at least that's what I believe, hence why I describe it as what I "was". c:

My nimravid-self, I'm not as sure about. It's always been pretty vague. I've loosely narrowed down my genus to Hoplophoneus, and if I had to pick a known species out of that genus I'd say I'm closest to Hoplophoneus occidentalis. Notable things about nimravids that differentiate them from modern cats include plantigrade feet, bulkier bodies and (usually) sabre teeth. My sabre teeth were only moderately long, and I had short flanges on my chin. Oh, and my teeth were totally covered by lips! I look(ed?) a bit like a cat-bulldog! I did some art of my nimravid-self here, though I improvised on a pattern since I have no idea what that might've been. I wasn't much of a looker, aha. :')

Not a theriotype buuut... my spirit kintype is a shapeshifter and very ambiguous in appearance. When I visualise it, I tend to think of something made of obsidian or basalt, kind of dragon-esque but with insectoid features, and coldly glowing, hollow eyes. I've tried drawing it a few times but it never feels quite "right" - it's hard to capture the concept visually, especially since I experience my spirit kintype to be something that constantly changes form. This is the closest I've come to a representation that feels "right". Yeah, it's kinda weird!
