The Diverged Lead

Adorned with a striking coat and dark but wild eyes, Emiri carried the pack through their era filled with prosperity and stability; but not without ambivalence, of course. She was born with a light, creamy veil over her dusky coat. As the moons passed, dark streaks of fur appeared, almost exploding out from her fur like how night fractures the golden clouds in the sundowning sky. A pup with an ever-changing coat was destined to be a whirlwind- always evolving and endlessly unpredictable.
The preparation leading up to her ascent was troubling to say the least. Emiri was a free spirit at the core. Jovial since the moment of her existence into the Universe, hence where she got her name. She so thoroughly enjoyed foraging herbs for the herbalist to make use of, aiding in the training of pups alongside brawny, weathered mentors, shadowing the adeptly talented hunters in their pursuit of prey; favoring her own mother of course, Kinpa, who she was the spitting image of. But what she found herself drawn to most of all- the days and week long journeys across the land with the scouts, nearly every single day.
She simply could not get enough of the escape. Knowing her fate as the chosen successor sat uncomfortably in her chest and manifested into a wicked sense of indignation; and the only reprieve she could find was in absconding. As the months passed and her confidence grew, her shadowing became a full blown mutiny of the role. Her trips would last for days on end, up and down the land through warm and cold climates, turbulently ripping through neighboring packs territories. It was of no consequence to her. Not until she herself was discovered.
A suave and sinewy male from a nearby pack with a crackled, autumnal coat just like hers had stealthily happened upon her during one of her excursions. And as the pleasantries were exchanged through his grumbly cadence and her ever-peaked captivation- thus began the frequent rendezvous.
Their relationship began lighthearted and covert, both sneaking away from their respective responsibilities in their own packs to frequent one another. Quickly, it developed into just enough to inspire a qualm. Emiri, overcome by infatuation and blinded by youthful puerility, and Vel, once invested and now tantalized, had begun to realize the shirking of her fate by her own hand. It was an unfortunate unraveling of a promising connection.
But Vel, being a bit older, more experienced, recognized the obstacle he was unintentionally posing as- and swiftly corrected the path for both of them. None knows for certain what the reason was. Unrequited love? Star-crossed lovers? Forbidden love? Perhaps a sound soul putting a lost one back on her path at the expense of his own fulfillment.
All that was known is that one day the wild Emiri returned back, garnished with the smile that granted her her name, and the words, "I'm ready," with hollowed eyes and a gaze more hardened than before she departed that day. She never left the land again
