What is this pup's base?

What is this pup's base?

So. This pup has been driving me nuts all day.

This pup is the result of a scry between their mother, Blue Ridge, and their father, Ink

Logically, because both parents have cool dark bases (Blue Ridge having a tier I base and Ink having a tier II base), the pup should be a cool dark. And yet, when compared to the cool dark bases (marengo, skarn, denim, lilac, nocturne, and serpentine), this pup… doesn’t seem to resemble any of them.

My best guess? The base is acanthite. The desaturated gray and lighter stripe running down the back would suggest as much.

But, as previously stated, both parents have cool dark bases… whereas the acanthite base is monochrome medium. Furthermore, the pup seems to be missing the stripe on their face that the acanthite base has.

Because the scrying stone does not, unfortunately, tell you about the customization of the pups that it generates, there’s no easy answer to this question. Unless I get a pup that looks like them when Blue Ridge’s pups are born in 4 rollovers.

So… what is their base? If it’s not a cool dark base, is this just a glitch/bug or is it something to do with genetics beyond what I’m aware of?

TLDR; Pup with a base that doesn’t resemble any of the cool dark bases, despite both parents being cool darks, was generated in the scrying stone. Does anyone know their base?

(Note: most of the information in this post is from the Grouse House guide to genetics.)

That looks like Skarn to me. Both pups have an almost greenish tint to the hindquarters, flank, and undereye area, and a more reddish tint to the back and top of head.

My friend suggested the same, but they just seem a bit too desaturated to me? Plus, I don't think the parents have any markings that would result in that strange lighter stripe on their back.

I got a pretty similar look in the wardrobe (linked) using Skarn, I think some of the markings mask the base a bit to make it harder to recognize~

Oh snap, that dude's almost identical! Super strange how much markings can warp the base, I was like 99% sure that the scried pup was an acanthite.

Yeah, and the reason it looks more desaturated to you might be because of the dad's heavy black markings - inheriting even a lower % of that will desaturate any color over most of the pup's body, because that's what happens when you tint colors with black.
