Level scaling for battles in explore

Level scaling for battles in explore

I feel like there should be level scaling for battles in explore because its pretty unlikely anyone thats over level 5 would take a fight against a lvl1 creature and vice versa

Perhaps make higher/lower leveled creatures rarer than those around your level

I disagree. Enemies are the way they are for a reason - some are meant to be harder than others because of what they are.

It makes sense bears are never below level 10 because a bear is a giant creature that could tear a wolf apart. It makes sense for a deer to be lower leveled than a bear because they're prey.

Also, with respects to biome difficulty, it wouldn't make sense for the Glacier and Grasslands to have the same level enemies just because you're level 5

Well then, maybe amping up difficulty in the harder biomes is better? Because encountering many lvl 1-7s in the swamp is kind of dumb

No support. I take lower level fights when my health is lower. For example, if my health is at half and I'm level 12, I only fight enemies that are level 7 or lower. This would just make me fight a lot less.

The exp you gain from a lvl 7 when ur lvl 12 is pretty abysmal tbh

aint worth the energy and hp you lose

While I don't think scaling with your level is the way to go, I DO think that at least some small scaling by biome difficulty would be nice, just so you can have at least a little bit more of a chance to run into the levels you want to fight.

Personally I thought doing something like this would be really nice and still allow a lot of flexibility for people:

Easy Biomes = enemies levels 1-10

Medium Biomes = enemies levels 1-15

Difficult Biomes = enemies level 5-20

Challenging Biomes = enemies level 10-20

Then you could just explore in one of those biomes if you were looking for certain level enemies.

I don't support direct level scaling, although I do sometimes wish there was a more defined difficulty spike as you progress in the game - even in difficult biomes I often struggle to find enemies my level or higher. That being said, I don't think the ideas proposed here are perfect solutions. I originally thought the same as Zeneka, that harder biomes should have exclusively higher level enemies, but I realized that if you were to move your pack to a harder biome, down the line, when you switch out your lead and lose your scouting progress for all the other biomes, it would be nearly impossible to level your lead from level 1 until your scouts have made it all the way back to the easier biomes.

For this reason level scaling seems like it would complicate things less, but there are a few things I don't like about that:

1) Realism - In nature, wolves compete with a variety of other species regardless of relative strength. They clash with species far stronger and far weaker than themselves, so I feel like it would be odd to only encounter enemies perfectly matched to your wolf regardless of species.

2) Like Jay said, it limits users' ability to adapt their playstyle to their wolf's current needs. (I personally fight higher level enemies most of the time, but in certain contexts l will fight lower level enemies for convenience, like when I'm close to leveling up and don't want to waste a healing salve)

3) It would make Lucky Feet far less useful, and make leveling much slower (at my level I only get 4% XP from winning a fight against a level 20, so if I were limited to enemies around my level I can only imagine how slow going it would be).

For these reasons, I think the way it currently stands is reasonable - It seems as if all enemy types have their own level ranges, and that in each biome there are some low-level enemy types, some mid, and some high. It can be frustrating sometimes to find the ones most suited to your playstyle, but I think it would be more frustrating to be limited to one playstyle. That's not to say the distribution of those enemy types couldn't stand to be tweaked based on the biome difficulty, but in general I think limiting the level range of enemies you can encounter would cause some issues.

I don't like enemies to scale with my level in any game as it hampers my sense of achievement. I like to be able t go bac to low level enemies that used to give me trouble and stomp them to see how much more powerful I've become.

I would support a stronger correlation between biome difficulty and enemy level, but I'd still like the odd low level enemy to show up in the swamp, and the odd high level one to appear in the grasslands, just for the variety.

I only skimmed this thread, so apologies if this is a suggestion that's already been made-
What about a talent for your lead that increases the odds of enemies being high level?

I burn through entire energy bars without once seeing a 15+ and even having an opportunity to gain a stat point, and it's really discouraging and frustrating. That said, if some people with high level leads are still fighting low level enemies, I wouldn't want to lock them in to these higher level encounters. Having a talent would make it optional.

I love that idea, Tesla! If you make a topic for that I'll support it!
