Swamp Hunting Question

Swamp Hunting Question

Furby 💉 (#3143) So I've moved to swamp! I have been hunting for a while now. My first group is 100% synergy and my other is about 50% synergy. I haven't been able to hunt anything but critters though! Is anyone else getting only critter hunts? Any advice?  Layout by ♥ Boba (#1999)

Hi!

The swamp is classified as a challenging biome, meaning that your hunting party will have a harder time bringing down prey. Additionally, it's currently winter which further decreases the chance of having a successful hunt. My suggestion would be to stick with small or critter trails during the winter, and then move to larger trails after winter.

Here is the Grouse House guide on hunting if you're interested; click.

Also as one last note, if your wolves have conflicting personalities (chart here), that could hinder your party's ability to have successful hunts as well.

Hope this helps! ^.^

I'm actually having this same issue here. My party, 88% prof (used to be 100 then added another hunter) with 100% stalker, 100% chaser, and 65% finisher have only ever found critter trails in the swamp, and I've been in the swamp since 10/13. My lowest level chaser is level 7.

The harder biomes are much more difficult for hunting. The trade off is more experience gained though. I had a 100% synergy with all 100% proficient hunter group and when I moved to Rainforest all I got were critter trails. I had been getting large trails on every hunt in Deciduous Forest before I moved. I've been moving around to different Biomes every day to get a feel for what kind of hunting success I'd have. Definitely much harder in the harder Biomes. If you have a lot of wolves to feed something to keep in mind.

In the most challenging biomes, you only ever get critter trails. You don’t get any other kind of trail.

Really hope they fix that at some point then, because it doesn't make much sense to only get critter trails in a place where there are definitely larger animals, even if the trade-off is more exp. Because while exp is nice, hamstringing your food supply is not.

Maybe as stats get higher we will be able to get larger prey. I thought someone said in testing they were up to over 2000 stats - maybe that will make a difference

I could be wrong, but I believe it is the proficiency and stats of the stalker that determines the size of critter trails encountered, so you could theoretically have a great, high-stat, high-prof stalker and find loads of large trails, but if your chasers and finisher are not so good then they'll hardly ever catch them.

It's not about catching larger animal trails you're on, it's the trails not showing up at those higher difficulties at all. All that seems to be present at the challenging biomes is critter trails and no other type.

The stats and proficiency of your stalker determines the size of the trails you find. The challenging biomes are designed for extremely high-stat hunters, so it's unlikely many, if any, people on the game have good enough stalkers to find the big trails.
