Immunity Gene’s

Immunity Gene’s

This Start off as a reply to this post idea but then turned into its own thing.

Link

I feel like this will probably be a unpopular suggestion due to the amount of coding it would take to implement it into the game and how it would change the way people breed their wolves , but If the devs ever did add an immunity stats i think it would be cool to add immunity genes and have them act much like in the game niche).

How it would work

each wolf has two letter genes for immunity that show up in their stats, which they inherit from their parents and pass on to their offspring.

Example:

Wolf with immunity genes (AB) mates with wolf who was immunity gene (CD)

They sire pups with (AB, AD, AC, CA, CB or CD) wolf immunity genes

((It sounds complicated but it’s literally just mixing random letters to show that immunity they have))

Inbreeding and similar genes

Now this is where it gets tricky, if two wolfs have similar genes or the some genes their more likely to have failed breedings and have pups with low immunity and fertility.

Example:

Wolf with immunity genes (AB) mates with wolf immunity gene (AB)

They sire pups with (AB, BA, BB or AA) wolf immunity gene

Wolfs with same letter genes (example: (AA) are most likely to be born with low immunity, illness, infertility or have mutations

No support.

While I like the idea of immunity and would like to see it be part of the genetics in your wolves, I don't think this game should have genotype systems added.

Breeding is already requiring some number crunching if you want to get the best stats, and if you want certain looks, well, there's another reason to keep a spreadsheet around.

Basing immunity on a genotype system would add a complex element, and one with severe consequences if you ignore it. (Whereas you can at least ignore the wolf's looks, it won't give you any gameplay benefits).

The game should be fun for everyone; regardless if you like playing it with a spreadsheet, or just want to put some wolves together and see what comes out.

It'd also be odd, imo, if the breeding system used genotypes only for immunity when it doesn't use genotypes for anything else.

Instead, I'd love to see the immunity gene here use the inbreeding COI. After all, inbreeding doesn't have any purpose on Wolvden right now, just an un-utilized feature.

Just my two cents. :)

No support for the infertility, but support for the eternal cold thing

Think more like in Niche: A Genetic Survival Game, double immunity genotype creatures have their usual other genes, but are always having a common cold.

Actually y'know what, imma make a full illness Information on the common cold of my envision!!!

Common cold

The common cold is first spread in a wolf who was born with 2 identical/similar immunity genotypes, then it can rarely spread ( less likely than a merged base color) to pass on to any other wolf in the den

Also, this illness will last for a rollover or two, if it was spread ( not acquired through the identical genotypes tho ) and can spread the disease more likely than wolf patient 0.

The illness will just be like the fleas, nothing much than needing more amusement than usual.

hmmm.. i think i'm on the fence.

it could make breeding harder and some players don't really have time for that nor would like that since breeding in itself is pure rng if you were to get good pups or not. BUT!! if the double immunity gene had a chance to give mutations (ex. cleft paw or anything harmful that could possibly decrease certain stats) that could just be stripped away from buying the item in raccoon wares. so i don't think it's that big of a deal.

on the other hand, some people like a challenge. it also makes things more valuable. the lethal mutation thing i don't think should be a part of this feature, but i wouldn't mind the double immunity gene giving a slight increase to spawning lethals like how low fertility already does. it's not that much of an increase, but it's there. that way, lethals still have a way to stay as rare as they are now. but i do support the harmful mutations being added along with this feature like cleft paw, blindness, deafness, and the susceptibility to get illnesses, and i would also support them decreasing certain stats.

I only support this for the genetic illness effect caused by same immunity genotypes, like in Niche: a Genetic Survival Game.
