Chat Box - Friends Tab ?

Chat Box - Friends Tab ?

Been interested in the possibility of adding a Friends Tab to the Chat Box.

Although I do enjoy scrolling through the Main Chat at times and engaging with users there, it can become tedious to keep track of a conversation at times. I feel like adding a tab Friends between Main & Roleplay where you can chat with friends who are online would be something nice to have.

It could be something similar to Facebook Messenger - or any messenger, for that matter - where it shows when a friend is online and can be contacted via that chat tab. Perhaps when choosing to chat with an online friend, it could open separate tabs for each friend to stay in contact - OR - an option to pop out Friends Chat Tab to where it could be overlaying the Wolvden site during conversations. Alternatively, there could be a settings option for each user - either in their Profile bio settings or somewhere in the Chat settings - where they can choose to have a hidden online status, if they do not wish to be interrupted from playing for a time.

Now, because I know some users have many, many friends on their lists - but may not necessarily be actively in conversations and/or "friendships" with these people, I considered the concept of a mechanic similar to the Add Friend we already have, where - after adding a user to your friends list - you could send them a request to be added to your Friends Chat Tab, or messaging tab. If they accept, you would be able to go to Chat Box > Friends > and begin to chat with them there. That way, even if you have a lot of friends you don't really actively engage with on the site, you would have full control over who you choose to add to this feature without worrying about excessive unwanted messages.

I'm assuming if this were to be implemented it would need coding of both the site [chat requests, online/offline settings, etc.] and the Chat Box [new tab(s) and features], as well as server tweaks.

I definitely agree that it is a little difficult to keep up with the main chat - especially if you want to talk to specific people, and PMing isn't as fast as the chatbox. I think this would be a great implementation to the game, including the idea for an invitation to certain friends to be in your "Friends" messaging tab. I support fully!

Sounds nice! Sometimes I end up talking with someone a lot over PMs once I've gotten to know them, and it'd be useful to be able to have a real-time chat instead.

This would be great!

When they release clans, maybe a clan exclusive chat too. But if it's like LD that probably is not going to work because you can join a limitless number.

I support this.

Having a friend-only chat/messenger for friends would be brilliant, especially having a setting where you can toggle if you can be messaged/ shows your status. If the devs were to have a toggle feature for hidden online/non-hidden online status, they would also need to remove the "last online" and the green-dot that shows up for everyone.

@xena - Yeah, I agree with the removal of "last online," but I always thought - for privacy purposes - it would honestly make more sense for users to have the freedom of a setting to show or hide their log-in history from others, haha

@Picti [#417] - definitely! I feel like it would be kind of unpopular, however. Many people who tend to outcross their females instead of using their own breeding males use that "last online" status to see if they should consider studding a wolf, for example: If a wolf is their desired stats, base, etc, but the owner is not online and has not been for, say, a week, it is unappealing to the buyer and they may choose another one. But, I suppose that wouldn't be the case for users who decide to keep their online/offline status toggle on.
