Suggestion: Herbalist Can Search for Specific Herbs

Posted 2020-11-05 12:44:41

@Sienna Snow
I understand. I don't want it to be too overpowered. That's why I modeled it after Rescouting. Search would only work on a FULL Energy bar and would require 100 minutes. So basically, you'd have to spend 5x the energy to get exactly what you wanted. Honestly, if you go straight by numbers, exchanging could potentially be faster if you get lucky and gets lots of Forages with two herbs. However, for people who aren't on all day, or want to do one Search before they log off, I thought it would be a nice option.

I partially support? I think is nice to have, but at this point not necessary for me.

I also just think that in rescouting, yes you get 2 items, but they are random and you can't choose what you get. To balance the ability to select the herb you are searching for, the number of herbs returned should be random between 1 to 2, or just 1. I think guaranteed 2 herbs is too much at the moment.

I'd love this feature, especially since certain herbs have been pesky to collect!

i support..

i think this great idea.

if you don't want to move your pack to a biome to where it can be easier to find a certain herb. you have a chance to find that herb.

i'm OK with having the herbalist have 50% proficiency to be able to search for a certain herb.

I don't think I support this, but here are some of my thoughts :)

I agree with Sienna Snow [#402] because of it kind of defeats the purpose of Wolvden being a game that is almost ENTIRELY based on random rolls and RNGs. We see it in battling, gaining EXP from different things, Puppy Litter counts, etc, you get the gist. While it would be nice, the exchange option is much less time consuming and easier to maneuver. In your example, say we are living in the desert and desperately need oregano. You said that the said herbalist keeps returning with solely Arnica, but no Oregano. In that situation, you could easily get oregano by exchanging your Arnica.

Again, piling on what Sienna Snow [#402] had said, it would completely ruin the market for herbs. If you are able to search for a specific herb, foraging would have no use and there would be no use for people selling herbs to make a little extra SC. With only foraging, it gives the game a little more challenge and opportunity to sell what you don't need for SC.

If this was implemented, 2 herbs of a player's choice are far too much for only one energy bar. If implemented, it should have a higher chance to find that specified herb, so it is still randomized. For example"

You send you herbalist off to search for Pineapple Leaf in hopes of them finding it.

Then, one of three things could happen from that point:

(1) Your herbalist returns shame-faced with no Pineapple Leaf in sight.
+ [amount] EXP
+ [amount] Proficiency

(2) Your herbalist returns with a small wag of her tail with a Pineapple Leaf!
+ [amount] EXP
+ [amount] Proficiency
+1 Pineapple Leaf has been added to your hoard.

(3) Your herbalist returns with an extra pep in their step and two Pineapple Leaves. Wow!
+ [amount] EXP
+ [amount] Proficiency
+2 Pineapple Leaves have been added to your hoard.

I support!

Being able to search for a specific herb would be nice, though, I liked the suggestion Xena made to make it not too OP.

Yes! I'd very much like my herbalist to bring back specific herbs too

She's at 100% proficiency, can she stop bringing home whatever leaf she finds on the ground xd

I like the suggestion Xena came up with, where you can increase your chances but there is still some randomness. Maybe building off of that, a potential 4th option where the herbalist doesn't come back with nothing, but comes back with one herb that is NOT what you specified? (Just trying to contribute and build, but this fourth option may just make things too messy for balance)

I agree, I, however, I think it needs balance because just as Xena#914 specified as it would destroy the economy of those who had a surplus. But also I shouldn't think it would be as bad as going all the way and wasting all your energy for nothing, because at this point you would be better off foraging and trading with the bear.

I like Xena's suggestion to only have it slightly increase the chance of finding the herb you want. The three possible outcome proposed adds a lot to the suggested mechanic for me too.
