Special NBW Base Adjustment

Special NBW Base Adjustment

This suggestion is pretty straight forward: make it so that special NBW [newly befriended wolf] bases cannot appear randomly when breeding.

This is specifically aimed towards the bases, because so far none of them are actually exclusively obtained by breeding an NBW [or NBW produced wolf] with that base. If you don't know about special NBW traits, here is the grouse house guide but for the sake of making this easy: once you reach level 15, you can claim special NBWs who can have "exclusive" eyes, marks and bases. However, these bases can also be bred at random. The bases that are supposed to be "exclusive" to special NBWs are sky, diorite, nocturne, feldspar, tuff, ebony, yellow, rust, dravite, nepheline, sterling and biotite. However, these bases also appear randomly via breeding which makes them not at all "exclusive" to special NBWs.

I propose that this be changed, making it so that the "exclusive" NBW bases are actually exclusive. They would be unable to pass unless one of the parent wolves has the base, in order to actually make them something you have to actively breed for instead of having it fall into your lap from a random breeding with the correct genetics. This would help to maintain long term value on these bases and, in my opinion, add an increased incentive to reaching level 15 and trying to claim special NBW.

Hmmm... I wouldn't be opposed to something like this. But I think doing so would require a bit of an overhaul of how the genetics work, currently?

I personally would not support this. The bases are not intended to be obtainable only through Special NBWs, rather they are tier 2 bases that the game developers decided can also be obtained through claiming NBWs. They are not exclusive (and the game developers have never stated them to be exclusive) but rather they are ways for players to get into tier 2 genetics without having to trade with other players.

Moreover, if they were to be made exclusive, then that would drastically decrease the range of bases you can obtain in a breeding. I much prefer having a wide range of possible bases come from a tier 2 breeding than having a lot of bases that can only be passed down through a parent and thus a small range of possible bases from a tier 2 breeding. Right now there is a lot of variety - I would hate to see this variety curtailed.

Finally, I personally do not like a huge influx of bases that require a parent to also have the base to be given to pups. Lioden has been having such an issue where there is an overwhelming amount of bases that are exclusive to themselves, and consequently the actual breeding has become a lot more boring and predictable. Making some bases NBW exclusive would begin this trend, especially with so many tier 2 bases being found in special NBWs.

I agree with Blue Pigeon.  I don't recall them being listed as NBW exclusive, just obtainable that way free.  And I am not a fan of exclusivity in bases, though I expect we will see it in the tier 3 bases.

I don't agree with the existing bases, just because the game already has so many and it'd be a bit much to change it suddenly. However, I would support some future NBW-exclusive bases in the future.

I support the concept, but I think rather than changing the current bases it'd work better to introduce new nbw-only special rarity bases, perhaps worth more 'stars' than a nbw t2 base, so only a 2 or 3 star NBW could get the special base (important for balancing the rarity of special-genetics G1s, which currently cost a 40+ gc base applicator to make.)
