wolf stat imbalances - why do they happen?

wolf stat imbalances - why do they happen?

I keep noticing an interesting thing - some wolves have some stats much higher than others.  I know stat assignments are random(ish?) when you level up, but once you're at level 10+ it should all even out most of the time, right?  But it doesn't.  E.g. my lead has Speed and Smarts around 100 but the other stats only around 60, which is a pretty big difference. One of my scouts has Strenght/Speed/Agility above 80 and the other two stats below 60, and the other has more of a range from 70 to 100 with Smarts being the highest, even though they've mostly been scouting the same places.

I know hunters gain extra for the stat matching their hunting role, and scouts gain stats based on the biome they're exploring, but I see the same thing in lead wolves... On the other hand adolescents don't have an imbalance, so you don't start with it, it just happens when leveling up.

Does anyone have any idea why that happens? Do most wolves have better/worse stats? Is it randomly assigned, influenced by personality, dependent on some non-obvious factor about what biome they explore in or what kinds of enemies they fight (for lead wolves), or what?

We don't know why this is happening. I feel confident in saying that there is a system, it's just a matter of finding it. There some theories:

One player said they only gained a random +1 stat in their strongest option at that time (lead)

There is a fighting/experience data collection going on that is looking into whether certain enemies only give specific stats (so you gain depending on who you fight).

Or the stat gain could be linked to the biome you're in like (like scouting).

And there is also data collection going on how exactly stats are inherited and if the distribution is random of follows that of the parents.

So this is mostly a non-answer?

Fair enough! I hope it gets figured out at some point. It'd be nice to be able to pick out a new scout that you knew was going to end up with high Strength/Wisdom...

I'll have to pay attention to my non-leveling stat gains and see if there's a pattern.

Well you can totally control what stats your scouts gain, that info is already available.

Yeah, I meant for the lead wolf - clearly something's going on with mine but it sounds like it's not known what exactly it is.

I was thinking it could be to do with their personalities (possibly just the one they were born with or possibly their stats gains would change if their personality also changed) or a hidden gene, but it definitely seems intentional!

Yeah, I was wondering about personalities too!  But there are so many personalities, you'd need a lot of data to figure it out.

It's quite easy data to collect though :D

Be aware if a wolf has had a personality change or not.

Just look at wolves who have levelled up and their personality, note which stats are highest/lowest, repeat!

The thing is, I think we have to exclude wolves who are or have ever been hunters or scouts (because that gives you specific stat gains depending on role/biome, although based on my scouts I do think something else is going on as well), and I'm not sure if herbalists or pupsitters have this going on at all (my pupsitters seem pretty even; my herbalist does have higher Wisdom/Smarts, but that could be either because I picked him that way or because herbalists also get role-specific stat gains - do they?), so we might end up only really taking data from lead wolves?  And given the number of possible personalities (assuming it depends on the specific one and not just aggressive/friendly/stoic/romantic), we'd need lead wolf data from possibly hundreds of people.

Are we sure different biomes give different stat games or is that speculative?
