I know this is going to be a controversial one, but just hear me out. Wolvden is such a lovely and in-depth game that is just simple enough for the casual player, while also having the potential to please even the most dedicated player. But ultimately, the heart of the gameplay is breeding (the heart of the game itself is the fantastic community which is evident even from week 1 of general access, but the heart of the gameplay is breeding). That is what allows players to progress via breeding higher stat wolves, what keeps players interested by breeding wolves for colors, and ultimately how players earn SC and/or GC through studding and selling wolves, which keeps the economy going since we are not earning much SC, if any, from battles and have a limit on the amount we may earn from Raccoon Wares. I know from playing MANY sim games that if the economy stinks, no matter how fun the game is or how popular it was before the economy started going down, players will get discouraged and either stop spending RL money and time on the game, or simply stop playing altogether. Therefore, I propose that the breeding cooldown for females be shortened from 20 days to 2 weeks (14 days). I understand why wolves age a half a month per Rollover, as the wolves have a shorter lifespan than lions of Lioden, (although I would not be opposed to having our wolves age 1 month per rollover instead) but 20 days is an awfully long time to wait for a female wolf to come into heat again, and I find myself getting bored. Yes, the possibility of earning some SC from daily quests (and participating future Events) offer something to do each day, but once completed, I find myself not even logging in until the next day or even a few days later because there simply isn't much of an incentive for me to log in, as I am not waiting for pups to be born and am weeks away from any of my females coming into heat. I don't know if anyone else feels this way or if it's just me, but if there was one thing I would change about this game at all, it would be this. Otherwise, I absolutely love this game and will likely continue to play it for a while yet. |

No support. A shorter cooldown would increase even more the number of pups in the game and since half the players seem to not like to chase their puppies and try to sell them even when they are potatoes (don't get me wrong, they have all the rights in this world to do that), the market would explode with puppies. If the core of your game experience is breeding and you like to do that, then plan your females heat cycles in a way that let you have litters almost everyday. On LD I managed to do that, so everyday I had at least a female in heat and one that was giving birth so that I could enjoy breeding everyday. Here on WD I'm trying to do the same thing, and usually I don't go more than 2 or 3 days without at least a breeding or a litter. |

No support. The beauty of the current system is that wolves are on cooldown for 10 in game months, then pregnant for 2 months, so that litters are twelve months apart - there's a lovely symmetry to it and to my knowledge it's quite realistic too. From a game economics point of view, long female cooldowns are necessary to limit somewhat the number of pups appearing, and also to keep certain females with highly desirable traits from dominating the breeding space and further shrink the genetic pool over what certain stud males do. I do understand that 20 days feels like a long time if you have nothing else going on, but as Piffle says, you can plan your breedings so that they're nicely spaced out and you always have something coming up soon to look forward to. |

No support however I wouldn't oppose the idea of an item that slightly shortens the cooldown but can only be used once |

No support from me either. I'm going to agree with what AngryFrog said and add on to it a bit. I used to have the same problem when first starting my pack, but just this past week I've bred nearly 10 females who almost all came into heat at once. Today I had 3 give birth. I'm to the point now that I may actually skip a few of my wolves heats just because I don't have the room for any more puppies (even though I want them!). Trust me, you won't be waiting forever... well, forever. ;) |
