Markings Customization Update/ Indicate markings unavailable in Customization

Markings Customization Update/ Indicate markings unavailable in Customization
Posted 2020-11-03 15:36:08 (edited)

This might just be something that has not been added to the game yet, but towards the beginning of normal access I went into my Lead Wolf's Wardrobe and customized her. I included markings such as "White Inuit Unders" and "Doubloon Merle", but when I went into Customization to see how much it would actually cost for me to customize her, I was disappointed to find that all Inuit, Merle, or Doubloon markings are not available through customization.

Personally, this is a bit of a setback for me. This is an enjoyable game and I cannot wait for the introduction of events, as the few I have taken part in on Lioden have been quite fun! But I started playing this game with a goal of one day customizing my lead wolf to match the design I came up with week 1 of playing, but now knowing that that is simply not possible, I am discouraged to continue putting in much time, or potentially even RL money, into this game.

If not all colors can be added to customization because they are event-exclusives or some similar reason, that is understandable, but Inuit markings and Merle seem like such normal markings that I have seen on quite a few wolves already. And I would try to breed a wolf that comes close enough to fitting my custom to where I can go in and move some marking slots around and add a few markings, but the 20 day breeding cooldown is also very discouraging.

Summary: Make ALL markings and colors available in Customization.

EDIT:

It seems that many players are not in favor of this suggestion, but many, myself included would like to see markings and colors clearly marked as "unavailable in customization", and possibly marked as "event exclusive", etc...

That... Would remove a lot of the fun about breeding for certain marks/colors.

No support.

Instead of putting all the marks into the customizer, what if we add indicators to wardrobe to show if a mark is breed-only, rma, nbw-exclusive, or customizer/marking applicators? That way, people can see where the marks come from and can plan for it. Personally, I think just adding all the marks takes away some of the fun of breeding, and even moreso feels rude to the people who spend time breeding those marks for others.

I agree with both of the above, the need to breed for certain markings/bases is part of the fun of the game. I do also agree with Orias about adding an indicator to the wardrobe to indicate which things you can actually get from customization.

Even though I don't really enjoy breeding for marks/bases, I understand that other people do and that putting everything in customization would take a huge portion out of the game. It is a breeding sim after all.

However I do really like the idea of the wardrobe telling you how to get that specific marking! Would certainly make my life easier.

@Orias

I see where you are coming from. But if players want to take time breeding the markings, that is their choice. Personally, I think there is RL money to be made here for the game if all markings were to be added, as players would be willing to buy GC to customize their wolves. As of right now, I don't have much incentive to customize any of my wolves.

Also, I do like the suggestion of indicating in the wardrobe if a marking isn't available through customization.

Yeah I disagree, sorry. *maybe* if this change had been made on release, but I've spent WAY MORE money on RMA's then you could spend customizing 5 wolves on my stud to *get* those markings you're speaking of, and I'd frankly be very upset if I blew that much real life money on random lottery markings when someone tomorrow could just go spend $10 and make a wolf identical to mine

Fun Fact: I've made over 38gc (a fully custom wolf) by selling salves  lucky feet, and extra food. It's not difficult to make gc here, and if anything, it's easier to make gc than sc on wolvden. Especially if you factor in hunting quests from the snake, which encourages a lot of hunting which results in excess food. If you sell about 80 uses of food, you can get 2gc easy. A dozen healing salves can net 10gc if you're good about advertising. Lucky feet sell especially well if paired with 2 healing salves to every foot. And that's in a week. There is very little at the moment to encourage gc purchase if you have a bit of patience. Given a bit more time, it's likely you can find a wolf who has the rma/rbreed-only marks you need, and then it's just a matter of getting the marking apps and opacity changers.

@Orias

Thanks! I will definitely be trying that in the future. Also, how do you get lucky feet? I only have the one I got from the starter quests.

Currently as a newbie player who only has 2 hunting wolves at current out of a max of 6 wolves; 1 is a scout, 1 is a pupsitter, one is a healer, and one is a juvenile who will either become a hunter or a scout, I am only getting maybe 2 food items from every 5-8 hunts, which is a far cry from the 80 you are getting (that is amazing by the way). I am a big believer in not simplifying default gameplay in the beginning to give a ton of handouts for newbie players (newbies can receive help and possibly SOME small handouts by generous players to help get them started, but otherwise I think that newbies should take the time to understand how much work and in-game currency goes into getting to where some of the top players are) , so at current that is something I simply cannot obtain even after a month or two's worth of hunts. And with how little SC I am making since I don't usually make SC from battles and because my wolves cannot usually complete the daily hunting task, even just one breeding to a semi-decent inexpensive male leaves me quite broke without enough extra to buy another wolf slot. I'll get there one day, but this isn't something that will happen overnight for me.

I think having exclusive/special markings is a fun idea, but I really think it should be clearly indicated in the wardrobe which options can be customized and which can't.
