Buying wolves when you're at max

Hello, I have a quick question about the trade buyout system and max wolf capacity in your pack.

Let's say I have one open space for an adult wolf in my pack, and I buyout a trade that has three wolves included. What happens? Do I get to choose which wolves to keep and which to chase? Is it a wasted effort altogether and they'll be in the void in some way?

I'm not sure but I think it wouldn't let you buy the trade. There will probably be a message like "You don't have enough territory slots to buy this trade" or something like that.
