Allow the Player to Choose the Opacity when Using a Marking Applicator

Allow the Player to Choose the Opacity when Using a Marking Applicator
Posted 2020-11-03 08:54:35 (edited)

Currently, when using a Marking Applicator, the opacity is randomized. This requires players to buy Marking Opacity Changer on top of already having paid for a Marking Applicator. To me, and many others, this is a very unfair set up - especially since both items essentially cost real money to obtain.

The very simple fix is to change the Marking Applicator to allow the player to decide the opacity.

Fully support. I think with RMAs, it makes sense not to be able to pick opacity, but with marking apps it seems a little unfair & arbitrary to me!

I understand there need to be ways to make players spend GC, but they've already spent 5 on the app

Support! Marking applicators are relatively pricy and apply markings with any opacity between 50% and 100%.

I'd honestly be okay with us only being able to set a range of opacity we'd like for a mark, e.g. Faint (1-33%), Medium (34-66%), and Strong (67-100%).

I agree with hydde, I like the idea of choosing a range for the opacity! I hate having to spend more than 5 gc to put the marking AND change the opacity

I think having both items while adjusting how they're used would be great.

The suggestion of having a range is great, as you still dont get full control- I'd even be inclined to say make the range for the applicator smaller and keep the maximum of 90% limit- that way opacity changers are the only way to get 100% on an added marking still.

Yeah, it's one of those things that just feels like an unnecessary extra inconvenience just when you already spent GC, which only really discourages you from spending it.  I think in general streamlining things is pretty important.

I came to the board specifically to make a suggestion on this. Huge support towards this one. The random percentage for something I already spent 5 GC on is absolutely unnecessary. Having ranges is still relatively pointless because if I want a marking to be at 20% but it gives me 5%, I'll still have to spend an extra GC. I think I've already spent a whooping amount of 20 GC just on marking opacity changers for markings I've applied and it's a huge inconvenience.

While I agree, as I generally have a specific opacity I want in the first place, here's the thing.

If you're looking at the $ cost compared to Lioden (ooh, how dare I), the Marking App is actually slightly cheaper here on Wolvden. Once you add the Opacity Changer, it's the same price as a Marking App over there. So I suppose the theory is that you could potentially spend less and with RNG get an opacity you're happy with, not having to spend that extra 1 GC.

I would assume that if they implemented this, they'd just adjust the price up to 6GC anyway.

They don't even have to entirely redo the Marking App for me to be please. They could make a new item that essentially is both the Marking and Opacity apps combined - sold for the price of the original two apps combined - and I would be pleased.

We could have two Custom Marking App items; a cheaper option with random opacity, and a more expensive item with player decided opacity.

Big support!

I wouldn't be against a new item like TheLostLioness suggested above me or a price increase on the marking applicators to add this to them, but having to purchase two separate items for one marking that you already have specifically planned to buy is very inconvenient, so having an item that does both would make it more streamlined.
