You need the remnants, not the bones themselves. Go to Shredding in your hoard and select the bones to shred them; you'll get amusement scraps (worth the same amount of amusement uses as you shred, so there's no loss). You also get the remnants just from using the items to play/feed(some food items get remnants too) with your wolves. Also you get 1 remnant per item shredded/used, not per use of the item, but you're guaranteed to get one from every item that has one.
