Dice rolls in battle

Dice rolls in battle

Hey! I'm very new to Wolvden, and even though I have a general grasp of the game now, one thing bothers me.
Since my lead wolf reached level 12, when I battle I almost always roll 1 for my attacks. Latch very rarely works anymore as well. I battle enemies between levels 11-13 (currently level 13) and I never attack bears, badgers or eagles because they beat me all the time, even at much lower levels than me.
Is this an intended feature or am I just unlucky / doing something wrong?

Make sure to assign yourself some talents. There are battle specific ones and other incredibly helpful ones. I tend to grab the Latcher talent, since I go for the strategy of latch and then shear; if I get shook off, I latch again and repeat. There's honestly different "best" strategies for most opponents, but that's what works for me.

It could also be a stat issue. I would go mostly for roughly level 10 opponents to better your chances, if you're lead's stats are low (which they probably are compared to what your next lead will be, given it's your first lead). Use lucky feet if you have any on tougher opponents.

Thank you so much for the tips!

I have these talents unlocked:
Tactical Retreat: Increased chance to safely Flee from battle.
Tireless: Victorious battles return 25% of the energy used.
Ambush: 50% chance to gain +1 bonus to initiative rolls.
Toughness: +2 max HP.
Speedy Scout: Reduce the time it takes to finish scouting by 10%.
Second Wind: Resting in battle always restores at least 1 point of energy used, and is more likely to remove tiredness.
Cunning: Increase the chance of evading special attacks.
Biter: +1 Damage with Bite. Decreased chance to cause bleeding with Bite.
Dauntless: Extra damage in battles vs powerful enemies.

Does stat balance matter for the lead wolf when it comes to battling? Is it better to keep the stats balanced or are there stats that need to be focused on?

Okay, so you've got quite a good bit of battle talents, so that should help (fyi, you have 1 talent point per level of your lead, so if that's all you have selected and I'm counting right, you should have a few more to pick ^^).

Honestly, when it comes to stats, I don't actually know all the details personally. I used to balance them out, but recently I heard that Strength should take some priority depending on your strategy. Apparently all the different battle moves use different stats, so depending on the strategy you find works for you, you may find different stats working better (but again, I have no idea which ones apply to which moves).

This guide might also be helpful for figuring out fights with specific opponents.

At the talents page it shows I have 0 available talent points. Must be because it's my first lead wolf...

I just found that guide a few days ago, it's been super helpful so far!

Thank you very much for your time and help! :)
