Hunting Party Problems?

Hunting Party Problems?
Posted 2020-11-02 11:39:37

Hey guys, I'm fairly new (I think I've played 8 or 9 days now), and my hunting party isn't bringing home things more often then not.

Not only that but I got hit by three illnesses in a row and I'm struggling with the ear mites (finding all the components) which has knocked one of my hunters out.

Anyone know what's going on Hunting party wise? Any tips? I'm currently feeding my wolves off of what I can get from explore!

What are the personalities on the wolves? I know the personalities matter with them and also the stats of your hunters and the specific roles you're putting them in.

Edit*: Btw if you need food or medicine I can help you with that. Luckily, my wolves hardly get sick.Mainly just diarrhea and one one case of influenza (the medicine is ridiculously expensive for influenza)

That's honestly pretty normal for low hunting parties, unfortunately.

Heck, my hunters are 100% proficiency and synergy. Most of the time, I'm lucky if they have a 50/50 catch rate. It's a little better if I try for nothing but critters, but hunters in this game are not 100% guaranteed to bring home food no matter how good their proficiency is. Higher stats can help some, but that's also hard starting out since normally you'll have NBWs.

My advice is to hunt them as much as you can. Stick to the critter and small trails if you can. Keep them fed and their mood up. They seem to get injured less if that happens.

Here's a helpful guide on hunting wolvden.com
I took a look at your hunting wolves and one stands out to me- the one with the bossy personality, they don't get along well with the other wolves due to the personality clash, which will hinder hunting!

I'm also gonna send you an ear mite medicine on the house, don't worry about paying me back I've been playing since early access and can easily make more!

Welcome to Wolvden!

Scarlet,

currently bc of pregnancy or illness there are three wolves hunting.

Fox Throw (Bossy) - Finisher/Chaser usually.
Grey Stone (Fair) - Chaser/Chaser
Burnt Bark (Fair) - Stalker/Chaser

Crow,
Omg thank you! I figured if I explored enough/and or got lucky with my herbalist i'd find the treatment parts but every time I do it spreads to a new wolf!

Ah, Scarlet's right. I keep forgetting about the personalities (which was rough for me in the beginning).

Looking at your hunters, you have...

Bossy (Aggressive)
Fair (Friendly) x 2
Imaginative (Romantic)
Dutiful (Romantic)

Aggressive and Friendly personalities do NOT get along, so that's probably causing you some issues.

So if you remove the one Bossy/Aggressive Wolf and replace them with another Friendly or Romantic, you should be good.

Stoic and Romantic personalities do not get along either so stay away from Stoics since you have a mostly Friendly/Romantic hunting group.

Alright I'll move Fox Throw into scouting since she can't play nice.

I'll see if that helps! Thanks guys! It's been hard bc I haven't caught anything in days and am surviving off of explore.

Seconding what Scarlet said - Romantic and Stoic personalities don't get along and Aggressive and Friendly personalities don't get along, and it puts a big damper on party synergy if you put them in the same party. For that reason, I have two hunting parties, one for "friendly" personalities Romantic and Friendly, and one hunting party for "unfriendly" personalities Aggressive and Stoic.

You can see the personality type of wolves in the top right corner after the first interaction in Befriending, but if you want to check your wolves' personalities once they're already claimed you can find it on their profile and check it against the table of wolf personalities in this guide.

Other than that, it's just repetition and making sure you're choosing the best wolf for each role based on their stats! The game does a pretty good job of doing this automatically but when I introduce a new hunter I always double check that I'm putting in the one that says [Best Stats], because often the game will prioritize proficiency in that particular role.

Your bossy wolf is clashing with your fair ones. Take a look at this chart, and try to make a more compatible team. <3 It takes time and effort, and seasons will affect the success rate as well.

Here is more info on personalities.

And here is more on hunting.

Nest your wolves at the last day of the pregnancy, since nesting them will make them unable too hunt. While pregnant they will regenerate energy slower, but will still be available to hunt.

Use health potions on low health wolves to keep them from getting sick. (Seem to do the trick for me!)

If you need anything potion wise, I can send over some for free. Or herbs if you want that more. <3
