Marking Suggestion Guidelines

  • We have planned many markings in advance.  As such, our development names or shapes might be the same as your ideas, or even resemble them, because it's very easy to overlap some concepts like "Blanket" (especially if it revolves around canines).  Keep in mind that if this happens, we might choose a different name for your marking if we decide to use it.  You're also welcome to edit your concept if our design appears within the game first.  A "Skull" marking could be suggested, and we might release it without referring to a suggestion or even seeing it—or maybe we picked another player's suggestion over yours that is similar.  Please don't be sad that yours didn't make it!  It's most important that a similar one ended up being added to the game, after all.  Keep inventing!
(Some examples of what we plan and could easily overlap: Elkhound Agouti, Laika Cover, Malamute Unders, Seppala Cover, Lapphund Points, etc.  Skull, Dapple, Leg Spotting, Plague, Swirls, Dirus, Ferox, etc.)
  • Please do not suggest overly complex markings, such as Brindle (which is planned), Leopard Spots, or Merles.  We are looking for more universal marking suggestions.  Complex ones are planned but will be rare, and we have special plans for those.
  • We're open here to suggestions for Patches and Piebald patterns and names.
  • Do not suggest bases or colours here.  This suggestion board is purely for designs and shapes.
  • One design per topic only.  This is important for our development workflow.  Avoid producing 100 suggestions per account, think your designs through well before posting, and give everyone a fair chance.  We want to avoid flooding suggestions with thousands of designs so that we will be able to see them all.
  • Guidelines on the template serve for us to reproduce markings efficiently on each stage and variant.  We use fur patterns to visibly guide us.  You might recognise the lines and easily imagine how it can look on wolves in-game.

Helpful Tips

  • If you use specific programs such as Photoshop, you can clip the layer you're drawing on into the base layer, which means you don't have to worry about going outside the lines.
  • If you struggle to draw with the guidelines in the template, you can erase them and let us worry about the rest.
  • You do not have to use the headshot if you're designing a body marking.  It's here for your optional closeup preference.
  • You do not have to use the bodyshot if you're designing a head marking, but since we can see a profile there, it would be useful.
  • Dark colours work best for your design!  Make them a bit lighter than the lineart for clarity.
  • If you're designing an "unders" type of marking and you make the wolf's base dark, please make a note so we know you're drawing the white/light shape.
NOTE: We cannot do markings that contain more than 1 base colour. If you want to design markings that contain black and white parts, you'd have to split them into 2 markings instead (like we do Ornate Spots and Ornate Blotches, which can work together)
