Best Biome for Herbs, per herb (DATA NEEDED)

Best Biome for Herbs, per herb (DATA NEEDED)
Posted 2023-11-02 18:47:22 (edited)
I like spreadsheets.

So I've decided to track every herb I get from exploring. Right now, my data is limited as I am only one person and I don't have the last four biomes unlocked. So help would be greatly appreciated!

10/11/23: I have made a second herb tracking sheet. It's a bit more streamlined. If you want to look at what I have, check it out here.

But anyway onto the data collection. To help gather data, reply to this post including the following information:

Biome:
Season:
*Starting energy:
Herbs gathered:
Herbs:

More about Data Submission

Really try not to only submit explores that you get herbs. If you spent 100 energy in the desert and got nothing, tell me! this just helps keep the herb per energy ratio accurate, but tbh the most important ratio is herb to herb, so it's not the end of the world.

*i dont care if you spent 50 energy on battling, i dont care if you gained 50 energy through interactions. im just going to assume they balance each other out.

For example, I start at 70 energy and explore the tundra. I find three herbs: two arnica and a bearberry. This is what I would submit.

Biome: Tundra
Season: Spring
Starting energy: 70
Herbs gathered: 3
Herbs: 2 arnica, bearberry

I plan to post an update after I have data for all seasons and biomes, but I hope to continue collecting data after that.

Edit: Update here! I've made some charts summarising the data. They are linked directly to the spreadsheet, so they will update as more data is added.

Results

The following charts are linked directly to the spreadsheet. As I add data, they will change. You do not have to reopen the link for it to update. Even if you keep the link open on your browser, IT WILL UPDATE ON ITS OWN within a few minutes.

Targeted Herb chart

Herbs gathered vary depending on the season and biome. Though two biomes may be able to give an herb, one may be more likely than the other to result in that herb.

This shows where you should go to target a specific herb, but it also has the secondary purpose of showing how rare each herb is. If you find Buffaloberry every 170 energy spent on average, Buffaloberry is therefore more common than Aloe, which you only get every 270 energy on average.

Total Herbs Gathered by Biome/Season

If you don't care which herbs you get, but only how many, the following chart shows lowest energy spent to herb gathered. It is sorted by biome and season. You can hover over the bar to see the specific value, but if you want just the values, those are listed in the tables charts below.

Table Charts by Biome/Season

Lower numbers indicate lower energy required to find any herb (e.g. if Taiga has a value of 40, you will find a random herb on average every 40 energy)

Spring

Summer

Winter

Autumn

Data for Nerds

Any set of conclusions is only as accurate as the expansiveness of its data. So if you're deciding whether or not to trust the results, these charts show how much energy data for each biome/season has been gathered. Some biomes/seasons may have less data than others, so results will be less reliable.

It is also important to note that energy is tracked only by starting energy. If you start with 100 energy, but lose 20 energy while exploring through battles, you would have the same starting energy as someone who gained 30 energy through interactions while exploring. The data is NOT based on pure exploring (i.e. not battling, not losing/gaining energy through encounters), so if you don't battle you should get slightly more herbs.

Total data gathered by biome/season

You can also check my work on the spreadsheet for this project.

For those lovely people helping gather data, the following will show the biome with the least data gathered so far. Do note this only counts overall data, not data by season. I use this to decide where to explore, so I don't have those two biomes I haven't discovered, but just assume they're always the lowest haha.

Just wanted to clarify. Are you wanting data just the herb picking encounter or all that reward herbs (raven and poop). Not sure if I did it right if my data was more than yours 😅

i haven't been tracking that data, but if you do happen to remember that is also very useful. fyre's aloe from the mountains, for example. Youre not supposed to be able to get aloe there. so knowing which interaction gave that herb is interesting, but that is absolutely not the point and you dont have to if you dont want to!

The raven can give any and all herbs which is why they got aloe from him.

Biome: Deciduous Forest
Season: Summer
Starting energy: 100
Herbs gathered: 1
Herbs: Spoonwood (gather)

For my first post, I added the interactions I got the herbs from because I was definitely not expecting to find aloe in the mountains, and thought it might be an interesting thing to note. Good to know the raven can give anything!
