Personality Rankings Best Personalities
Personality Effect Ranking Explanation
Anxious +10% chance to gain +1-2% energy when ignoring a battle in explore. Low-leveled battles are common in explore and this gives a benefit to ignoring them. This personality gets better the more one explores.
Combative Gain back 10% of the energy used in a victorious battle. This effect is very useful overall. Events tend to have battle encounters and this allows leads to participate in more of them.
Imaginative +1% additional chance to get a trophy. Trophies are rare enough that this is helpful. Especially when there are enemies that drop extremely rare trophies available (I.E. Corrupted Crawler, Halloween Event).
Observant Biomes revealed 2% faster when scouted. For Generation 1 and low-stat scouts, nearly doubles the discovery of the most challenging biomes. Recommend using this personality to finish scouting all biomes before changing to either Combative, Imaginative, or Anxious.
Decent Personalities
Adventurous Require 50% less wolves killed when moving biomes. Useful when moving biomes, especially when the pack is large. Pointless otherwise. For large packs (75+ wolves) it may be worth the 6 GC it costs to change to this personality, move biomes, then change personalities again.
Amiable Cooldown for breaking pairbonds reduced by a third, mood penalty halved. Highly specific. With this personality it is not necessary to breed outside of your own pack.
Arrogant +5% boost to XP received from battling. Useful for leveling, but probably worse than Anxious or Combative.
Dedicated +1% extra proficiency for scouts, hunters, pup training and herbalists. Decent for getting wolves' proficiencies up. Perhaps one of the better starter personalities.
Dishonest Reduced costs by 50% when adopting a puppy from the enclave. Save around 7-15 SC per puppy adopted. For those that adopt a lot of puppies from the enclave, this may be worth it.
Neutral Reroll snake quest for free once per day. Highest stat boost. Quests are usually easy enough to not need to reroll, but save 150 SC per time this ability is used.
Selfish +2 SC per victorious battle. One of the better SC abilities. 2 SC per battle can add up, especially during the lunar event. 2 SC is still very low for the effort required, however.
Worst Personalities
Aloof 10% chance to receive +1-3 SC when leaving a puppy at the enclave. An average of +2 SC per 10 enclaved pups is not worth missing out on another effect.
Bossy Finish hunting, medicine mixing, foraging, scouting and pup training 1 minute earlier. The benefit is very minor and is thus not worth missing out on another effect.
Charming +5% chance to start befriending with a green arrow. Talents render this personality useless.
Conceited +5 SC per snake quest completed. +15 SC per day is not worth missing out on another effect.
Confident, Humble, Sarcastic, Sullen +5% survival chance for pups born in [summer, spring, winter, fall]. Just get another pupsitter.
Dutiful Get extra SC for completing Melvin Mission quest chains on consecutive days. +2 SC per day (?). Possibly the worst personality.
Fair +1 SC per fish sent of uncommon rarity and higher when fishing. +30 SC per day for meticulous fishing. Not worth the time.
Helpful, Precise, Quiet +1% success for hunting teams. Approx. 1 additional success per 10 days per hunting party. Not great.
Impulsive 2% chance of starting a battle with Rush. Low trigger chance is not worth missing out another effect.
Independent +1 HP regained after the battle ends. 1 HP per battle is not worth missing out on another effect.
Keen +1% extra proficiency for apprentices when learning. It's already easy to max out an apprentice's proficiency without the perk.
Lazy Lose 5% less hunger at rollover. Leads already regain hunger through explore.
Malicious 10% chance of gaining +1-3 SC when chasing a wolf. An average of 2 SC per 10 chased wolves.
Optimistic Complete foraging 3 minutes quicker. Herbs are abundant and this is less than 10% faster foraging.
Pessimistic +10% chance to gain +1 SC when shredding items. 10 SC per 100 shredded items. Interesting. Encourages shredding everything, which is not ideal.
Scatterbrained Gain a small chance to get distracted and find +5 SC in explore. Low trigger chance, low reward. Not worth missing out on another effect.
Sneaky +5% chance to gain +1 bonus to initiative rolls in battle. Less reliable and useful than other options.
Trusting Breeding acts as if the fertility of all pack wolves is +5%. Only useful if breeding VLF wolves frequently.
Unfriendly Does not infect fellow pack members if sick upon rollover. Illnesses are easy to cure. Use 'quarantine' caves, leave no wolves 'Unsorted', and focus on curing your lead if illnesses are spreading amongst your pack.
Vulgar Halved chances of gaining an illness from rotting food. Amusement items are typically more expensive than food. Recommend salvaging and selling rotting corpses, not eating them.
Uncategorized Personalities
Capable Get a small boost to XP gained. Unknown numbers, cannot categorize without more information. Likely 'Worst' or 'Decent' Category.
Obnoxious Get a small chance battle opponent will yield when close to death. Unknown numbers, cannot properly categorize without more information. Based on feedback it appears to trigger often enough. Seems to be the best personality for battle success. Likely 'Decent' Category.
Reliable Get additional SC from snake quest rewards. Unknown numbers, cannot categorize without more information. Same as Conceited?
Sociable Build friendships faster. Highly specific. Unknown numbers, cannot categorize without more information. Likely a highly-specific 'Good' or 'Decent' Category.

I can tell you that Scatterbrained isn't worth it. My lead had Scatterbrained for perhaps a week or so and I never got any SC from exploring, so I switched her personality. Originally I thought I was going to be rolling in dough!

I am also very curious about the numbers for Dutiful and Reliable. If I didn't need Adventurous to move my pack soon, I could've switched to one of them to see.

I wish I had remembered Dedicated's bonus back when my last lead died a few weeks ago! Both my scouts were only at ~50% proficiency and if I had Dedicated, they could've been zooming through rediscovering the biomes. I also forgot to move to the swamp or tundra (so the most challenging biomes would already be unlocked)! I really fumbled the bag this time lmao

Commenting again to add that aloof 100% deserves its rating as worst. It's such a nothing bonus if you don't enclave pups in large amounts daily, and even if you do, the chance is low enough it still barely adds anything (adding this to the fact you can easily rake in 10-20 sc a potato pup by selling them as fodder instead of enclaving them yourself directly, which gives you miles more sc than the measly bonus)

I'd absolutely change my lead's personality if it didn't fit her lore

So I just changed my lead's personality to Dutiful because my scouts are still taking forever to unlock the tundra and glacier (I want to move to the glacier).

I am on max streak of 10 days, which by default gives 10sc per completed task and a 70sc bonus.
Keep in mind I only switched to Dutiful after I had already completed 4/5 tasks for today.
For my 5th task, I received a total of 82sc - 70 bonus, 10 for task, and 2sc because of Dutiful. I spent 900sc randomizing my lead's personality until I got Dutiful so this is... Very disappointing. But not surprising.

Still, I'm going to save myself the pain and just keep Dutiful until Glacier unlocks. Tbh I'm probably not going to even switch back to Adventurous. Last time I moved without it, I had to hunt 19 wolves and completed it within a day.

Thank you both for all of your input!

Thank you for confirming that Scatterbrained is bad.
Crowfeathers, that is a good point that I failed to mention: it is better to sell unwanted puppies than to enclave them, even with the bonus from Aloof.

Dutiful is only a 2SC bonus? Does that apply for each Melvin Quest, or only the final bonus?
Either way, that's quite low.  Conceited is, at least, a 'guaranteed' 15 SC per day.

I agree, Adventurous isn't worth it for most packs. Adventurous is probably most worth it when you have to defeat 30+ wolves to move biomes. Not sure what pack size that starts at exactly.

Thank you for the information. If you notice that the Melvin numbers have any variance, please reach out. I'd be happy to know.
I'll update the guide in the future.

I just completed 2 Melvin quests today so far and got no bonus SC. It would make sense that the bonus only applies to the last quest, but oh gosh, 2 extra SC a day? Amazing

Edit: Just finished all my Melvin quests. Didn't get any extra SC for any other quests except the last quest again. And just like yesterday, it only gave 2sc.

Mistakes were made

Good question to ask: does the Combative personality and Tireless talent (25% energy returned) stack?

That is a good question, KittyKookiez. I wrote this assuming that combative stacked with the talent, but did not check.

I went ahead and tested it out and without a combative personality I received 2 energy back on 9 spent (~22%). With the combative personality, I received 5 back on 14 spent (~35%).
That seems to be a confirmed 'yes': combative stacks with the tireless talent.

Also, Dutiful might be in the runner for the absolute worst personality. Haha.
