He was so very little. Moon was not an experienced mother, but she knew right away that this tiny pup of hers was much smaller than he should have been. She tried desperately to make sure he had enough milk, but it just seemed like this pup didn't have to will to fight to live. She called upon an audience with Azreal and Viola, the young herbalist, and begged them to do all they could to save her pup. Viola tenderly touched her nose to the tiny pup's forehead, but he barely seemed to register her existence. Azreal chanted to the moon Goddesses, but his glowing blue eyes were blank. The Goddesses had not answered his pleas.

Anguished, Moon let out a howl that was so heartbreaking, and so full of love it is said to have reached the stars themselves. The moon Goddess Zulae listened to the howl and took pity on the poor mother. Bits of starlight began to glow in the pelt of the tiny pup, and it was at that moment that Moon knew that he would live, and his name would be Eclipse.
