Stone sighed and laid his head back on his paws, then thought better and put it under them. And then he groaned, quietly.

- Going by the more commanding moniker Fitzroy, Fitz for short, and for survival while here.

- Ran into the Tarwater Pack in autumn looking for a cure, desperate not to infect his home pack. Imagine his surprise when these backwater hooligans deigned him god-touched and a soothsayer.

- Works covertly with Stone, and Slade, who are trying alternately to save his neck and their own. Not sure if Slade's actually 100% on ensuring Fitz's survival. After losing Sullene and Kipwit to his own infectious disease, or so he thinks, he's not taking chances with this new blood. Probably thinks it's his responsibility to...get rid of him. Quietly, if possible. But few things are possible to do quietly in this hellish company.

- No one's really sure if the twins think he's genuinely touched or they're using him to prove their "divine right." Everyone loves to rally around the people who can protect them when they're afraid, right? And doesn't it just work out well for everyone... (Spoilers: It doesn't. This is Mitote's inciting moment, in which the twins' collective hubris makes one of them pay, very dearly.)

- Sights and sounds of Tarwater: bubbling oil swamp, mines, crawdad shed, the hideous Biltskin (a cursed, walking shed they den in...), that time Fitz caught Leaves Goodbye Behind Her watching Mitote at witchcraft and made him promise not to tell (Exhibit B: last apprentice went "missing" for "peddling"...)

- Fun fact: Eli totally buys that Fitz is holy. He's just that prone to magical thinking.

- Cajoled into pupsitting by Pico, who's not a likable guy but he seems to at least have a conscience--when the leads aren't looking...

an interlude that didn't happen.

fizz was settling down after a triumphant hunt, having eaten until his belly was nearing the edge of uncomfortably full. he was feeling /sated/, adrenaline wearing off to make way for the gentle tug of sleep, alluring and gentle. the scent of his packmate, a sharp-eyed long-suffering mother, filled his nose; earthy and warm. she lay next to him and fizz could not resist the temptation to rest his muzzle over her back, tilting his head to nuzzle into her red fur.

ignoring the flash of teeth she gave him at his pup-like behavior, he couldn't help but smile as he continues to burrow into the pillow of fur, closing his eyes and letting unconsciousness take him.

when he woke up to an itch that spread like wildfire across his skin and the scent of pollution, he realized it was just a dream.
