East Star

Shaking off the snow that had built up on his pelt East Star couldn't help but sit back down and stare off into the snowstorm. Was Bright Day okay with her travels so far? Hearing a low howl East Star finally stands up and begins his descent back to the ice caves below. He knew she had a hatred for him, and he could understand it, it would always amuse him when she would snarl at him and try to be polite. Now the only amusement he could find was in the hunt. Bottomless Chasm, the alpha was growing old, and he knew within the next two years he would have to take up the mantle of alpha of the pack. Lost in thought about all the duties he had to attend to today East Star looks up and notices he had made it to the alpha's den. Looking both ways he slinks inside, not wanting to run into the alpha's mate Rainstorm's Revenge and have her cold emotionless eyes stare at him right now. Bottomless Chasm had his back to him, but East Star knew his father noticed his entry as he had straightened his posture.
Bright Day was wrong about their father favoring him over her or her full siblings, in fact Bottomless Chasm resented him.
"East Star, your mother has come complaining that I am working you too hard. That I have you up before the sun rises every day for the last six moon cycles." Turning around Bottomless Chasm looks into his son's eyes. East Star does not look away, he knows not to show weakness to his father or any pack member other than his mother. Scoffing in his head he corrects himself, even his mother would ruin him for a higher spot in the pack hierarchy.
"It is not anything I have ordered for you to do; I've let you brood up on the glacier cliffs because no one has said anything but now I want an explanation."
"I'm simply star gazing; the sun rise is always beautiful on the ice and snow." Not looking away and hoping the alpha buys his lie. Huffing the old alpha seems to accept this and motions East Star towards the exit.
"You may leave, be sure to tell your mother your actions are your own." Walking out of the alpha den East Star can feel a weight lift of his shoulders, speaking to the alpha was always draining.

The blizzard had come early today, Haunting Spirit had predicted the storm but the suffocating stares and contempt he always got from the pack made him leave the safe ice caves for the barren snow wasteland. North Wind his future beta beside him and West Breeze his sister behind him, he felt something, terror. What if he had led his siblings to their cold death.
