Ebony Skies
Savory pitch embraces my soul, chasing my blues far away.
Stars linger around a half moon, my favorite hours darkened.
The essence of midnight,
I pray that evening comes fast
Sprinkling skies of love with jewels tiny jewels
Upon a ebony horizon.

^{Ebony Skies grinned, running over to Honey who'd been peacefully going over her Pack Law leaflets. He flopped down over her knocking the air out her lungs. She gasped, snarling as she delivered a sharp nip to his flank,

"You're no fun, Honey! You cling to your leaflets as if they hold your soul! Is studying law really more important than fun?"

He giggled, scrambling away from her jaws. She scowled at him,

"You act like you're still a pup! I can't believe Sanity actually bargained for a wolf like you! If anything he should've brought a more mature wolf."

Ebony Skies brushed off her nasty comment with a laugh and a shrug.

"We both aren't pack-borne and you know it!"

His words seemed to cut deep, because a second later Honey's muzzle was mere inches from his as she growled,

"I'm more pack-borne than you'll ever be!"

She snarled, stalking off away from him. He stared after her bristling tail wondering why his tease had angered her so.

"Someone can't take a tease."

He huffed turning around and smacking right into Sun! The wolf had nearly no scent and his blind eyes stared vacantly ahead, his eyelids twitching slighting as their bodies made contact. Sun's nose twitched before he hesitantly said,

"...Ebony?"

"Yes sir.."

He said quietly, quite frankly the old wolf freaked him out, always lurking around camp and sneaking up on wolves. He didn't know if he'd ever get used to Sun.

The wolf snorted,

"It'll take me a while to get used to your scent.. It would help if you weren't covered in mud nearly all the time." He smacked his jaws together making a resounding wet smack with his lips.

"Now, come here pup. I have something to show you."

Sun said with a flick of his tail, he didn't give Ebony Skies a chance to respond before he turned away and vanished into his Den Of Herbs. Ebony Skies stared after him for some time before blinking

Follow me?

Hesitantly, Ebony Skies followed him into the dark damp underground den. The scent of strong herbs stung his nostrils as he sneezed, somewhere in the dark he heard Sun grumbled about his herbs being freshly arranged.

"I can't see anything."

Sun snorted,

"Oh really?"

"Sorry."

"Don't be. Now, use your nose pup. You can't always rely on your sight when one day you sight will fail you."

Ebony shivered, he couldn't imagine being like Sun, old, frail and alone? No thanks. He thought with a shake of his pelt. He took a deep sniff catching a scent distinct from the herbal aroma in the den, he peeled his lips above his gums to get a better grasp of the scent. As the scent hit the roof of his mouth his eyes snapped open,

"I- I've never smelt this scent before."

The walls of the den were suddenly lined with a dimly glowing blue powder that seemed to become brighter the longer he stared at it.

In the dim den Ebony Skies caught a glimpse of blue light reflecting off of Sun's teeth as he smiled a crooked smile.

"The stars have spoken to me. You are to be the next Star Walker."

Ebony Skies blinked,

"Star Walker?"

Sun nodded, in the blackness Ebony Skies could make out swirling blue figures behind Sun's frame that definitely weren't there before.

"We haven't had one in many, many seasons. The last Star Walker we had was a puppy named Moon. Her life cut short before she could fulfill her destiny, we thought the Stars had turned their backs on us after her death- no murder."

"Murder..?" Ebony Skies whimpered,

"Yes two wolves Fox and Ghost. Formerly Dune and Icicle. They lured the Moon and her sister into the forest where they were slaughtered by foxes."

Ebony Skies shrunk back,

"The Stars have forgiven us. Our pack has been blessed with you!"

He rasped, Sun's joints creaked with effort as the old wolf rose to his paws to make a move towards Ebony Skies.

Ebony Skies shook his head, backing away from the crazed wolf,

"I am no Star Walker! I am not borne of Moon Ridge blood! I was sold because my mother and father did not want me!" He growled,

"You can't deny your fate Ebony Stars! Our ancestors live inside you! You are as old as time and the only wolf who can guide us through this famine!"

"I am no Star Walker! And you will address me as Ebony Skies! That is my true name!"

Ebony Skies screeched bursting from the den. Sun's blank eyes followed him as the adolescent ran from the den, ignoring the glances from the wolves in camp. Behind him he could hear Sun's horrible howl ring out after him,

"Moon lives on within you! Stag lives on within you! All Star Walkers live through you!"}
