Quicksand had become leader of BrightFang pack at a young age. Their previous leader, Skadi, had died only a day before Quicksand officially turned one. Sandstorm, who was supposed to become leader after Skadi, was also too old, so the responsibility fell to Quicksand, the only daughter in line to succeed. Cardinal, her brother, grumbled, he'd hoped to be the heir, but he was too impatient, not the best skill for leadership. Tag, Zip, and Flash, Quicksand's half-siblings all respected their mothers decision, and didn't argue that they weren't in charge.
