Named after Desdemona from William Shakespeare's play Othello. Her footnote is one of Desdemona's last lines.
The violent crack of thunder was enough to startle any animal, predator or prey. The forking lightning streaking through the rumbling clouds promised danger, and thanks to this violent combination, the forest was clear of animals, most sheltering themselves from the torrential rain. It was in this miserable weather that Desdemona and Lavender met.
Seeing this storm as an opportunity to escape the two wolves snarling at her, Desdemona leapt through the trees, blinded by the rain. She just needed somewhere safe, somewhere dry-- THWACK. In her panic, she ran headlong into another wolf, her snout colliding with the side of Lavender's head. Instead of glaring at her, Lavender leveled Desdemona with a curious stare. Thinking she could hear the growls of angered wolves hot on her trail, Desdemona immediately begged for a place in Lavender's pack.
Despite her nervous, easily startled nature, Desdemona has found a place in the pack as a hunter. Lavender tries to reassure Des that she doesn't need to work so hard; due to a fear of being abandoned to an unfriendly wilderness, Desdemona often overworks so that she is deeply important to the pack.
