Lost her little sister, Crow, to an earthquake. A branch fell on her and crushed her when she was out training. Basalt was heartbroken by the loss, she felt like she had failed her. She promised their parents she would look out for her, but she wasn't there, she couldn't do anything to protect little Crow.
She had recently had her first litter of pups, but while she was grieving her milk dried up too soon, her son was saved by Violet, one of the pack's herbalists, who had a litter close in age and was still producing.
Basalt spent as much time as she could with her son and Violet, who was very gentle and reassuring to her, they had grown up together but Violet was a little older and her work gave her more experience with grief and pain.
